BBKing@NIA Academy

Hi, guys!

Well, in terms of music style I shouldn't really list this here, but hey - he rocks...

1st July, 2002 at the NIA Academy in Birmingham, BBKing and his blues band together with Oliver Darley graced the stage. It was quite an intmiate setting (as can be in the Academy, but hey) and I think the concert should have been billed as 'An Audience With...' as King sat and joked and talked with the crowd.

Oliver Darley was up first, accompanied by a pianist and sang some gospel-inspired tunes together with a rendition of 'Dock of the Bay'. Then BBKing came on and showed me what note selection and dynamics are all about. Fanatastic. Tunes such as 'Rock me Baby' and 'The Thrill is Gone' pumped out nice and loud showing that, even at 76, his voice can still cut it.

If I have one complaint, it was that the sound for everything but King's guitar and mike didn't have enough midrange - the brass was FAR too bright (to the point of being painful without being able to distinguish the notes).

All in all, though - a great evening out, coupled with brilliant music. I liked it.

Nick

Of course you can list it here...BB King really rocks, he's one of these guitar players that you can recognise after a few notes, and the concert in the intimate setting sounds really great. Too bad I haven't yet had a chance to see him live
