Your buddy could wind up waiting alone for A WHILE. If the both of you decide that it is okay that you are going to see Vai and that he may be sitting outside for a few hours, I would see if I could bring something for Steve Vai to sign for your friend. Maybe a CD cover or something.

When is your show, look around, a few people have passes around here, I got my drummer one and we both went backstage.

I gave a dude I know a free ticket if he wouldn't mind chilling outside while I do the backstage thing (no big deal - I'll live!).
I am almost 37 yrs old and pretty jaded about the music scene. I've met a lot of famous people. HOWEVER, I am still shocked that I was practically having a heart attack when it came time to talk to Steve. He is awesome. Wow. I forgot how to speak English and I think I may have passed out. OK, I made the last part up, but it is almost true

Yeah, Oct. 4th is officially Steve Vai day for me. I get to see him at a clinic Berklee is having. Then later on I get to see him in concert. Then I get to meet him and have him sign my 7VWH!!! Gonna be awesome!!!

I understand, I was the same when I met Vai, I was way to old to be speechless. I was like Hi i'm a big fan (well duh) can you sign my guitar ? "thanks thats awesome " thats all I could say to him.... Im pathetic
