Dream Theater Fans

I'm going to the DT show on March 6th in Phoenix (Platinum tickets!!!!). I'm always a bit hesitant to go to shows especially in the pit because I always have some horrible experience that deters me from wanting to go to another show. (Last show I went to a girl next to me passed out and started bleeding from somewhere - it was all over the place.) Because of this I've never gone to a DT show, especially when they were on Gigantour.

Anyway, the only good experience in pit that I've had was the opening show for the Real Illusions tour. Can expect this type of "calm" crowd at a DT show? Part of me says "no".....

Thanks.

Re: Dream Theater Fans

I think DT has a more "cerebral" audience than the typical metal band. I mean, it's harder to mosh in 7/8...

The shows I went to were calm, but that doesn't mean it's a given.

Re: Dream Theater Fans

I've only witnessed moshing once at a DT show at Toad's Place in New Haven. For the most part, the crowd is very similar to a Vai or Satch show. Calm as a whole, but there are always a few nuts who try too agressively to press up close to the stage. Avoid the front couple of rows and it should be cool.

I think DT have some of the best fans (loyalty-wise) and some of the worst fans (being rude to the opening act). I would never, ever want to be an opening act for them, LOL. I guess that's the unfortunate case for lots of opening acts, but it just seems to be a degree harsher at DT shows.
