Gin Blossoms Back together

Hey they're not heavy and they don't tend to shred, either. But, they write good, catchy tunes with a nice Southwestern flavor. Anyone who's heard an entire album knows that the radio songs were cool but don't even begin to offer a glimse of their capabilities. I'm seeing them Saturday night (5/25). I'm quite stoked! They have a different drummer for the time being. I usually play a style of music influenced by them and other bands from the Arizona area on my Jems and UV.

Now if only Whitesnake could reform I'll have new material from my two all-time favorite bands.

They've been recording and the drummer for at least this leg of the tour is from the Pistoleros-another band from their area. they are re-releasing "Dusted" which was an independent album before they signed with A&M. It contains more than half of the songs from their first full-length major label release "New Miserable Experience" but it sounds WAY different. I also understand that there will be a new edition of New Miserable experince coming out that will have bonus tracks (I believe it will be songs from a Promo disc from back in the day). There's a lot of music available from members in the band that was released on other projects during the break-up. they will also be headlining the forthcoming New World Disorder tour which will include 7 Mary 3 and Spin Doctors.

Went to the show last night. I had a great time. It was outdoors and colder than originally expected but I didn't care and the band sounded great. Better than ever. They even did two covers: "Cant Hardly Wait" - (I don't remember who did that originally) and "I Need to Know"-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The new drummer, Gary, was great (it was his third show with them). I got to meet everyone else in the band, afterwards. They were extremely cool guys and very hospitable and social.

They will be releasing a special 2-CD version of "New Miserable Experience" in august. The Gin Blossoms' website is being constructed. Dusted, their first album, which was independently released in 1989 is also re-released but on CD, this time. It is available at the shows and online.

"Can't hardly Wait" was done by the Replacements. Front-man for the Replacements, Paul Westerberg did "Dyslexic Heart" for the movie soundtrack to "Singles" and has been co-writer for a few Goo-Goo Dolls tunes.

Ya know....seeing this band back together does my heart good. They always seemed like a great band that had alot of fun writing decent songs. I'm just hoping that the reunion sees them keeping it together for the long haul.

I've only gotten into GB (meaning "Gin Blossoms", not "Ghetto Booty") recently, and they've since become a pretty major influence on my playing and arrangement style. They had a great sense of "when to keep arrangements simple", as well as great melodies and harmonies. Their greatest hits CD is awesome for crusing around on a sunny afternoon with all the windows open!

Now if I could only get some good news on Collective Soul...

They will be at BB KIngs on 8/9. The re-release (a 10th anniversary edition) of "New Miserable Experience" with rarities is due out 9/24/02 and a DVD is due out in November. I'm a happy guy!
