King's X took the stage after having a nu metal jerkoff band open (zugs I think) Anyway, they opened with Train from Ear Candy then jumped all over their discography and did a bit of everything. They played for about 2.5 hours and it was loud, thick and intense ! Doug has the same thick growly twangy bass tone live and ty has his patented tone as well. He was using a Line six
pod pro
running into a couple boogie 2:90's through some gear I couldn't quite tell what they were, into 4 Recto cabs. Jerry's drumming was as awesome as ever and they layed down the patented X-Groove like noone else can !
At one point during doug's bass solo he blew out the house's mains so the PA died... they held it together and kept grooving until the PA came back on, and then he did that wicked falsetto, raspy scream and they launched into 'Pleiades' and FRIGGIN ROCKED... They had the audience singing backups for the harmonies and the room sounded so full of energy for the band, it was a great show !
They come back to Chicago in May to the Abbey in Chicago. I plan on seeing them again, it was a great time... for 12 bux, you can't beat that !

I went to their NYC show at B.B. King's. I was right next to Ty's rig. Aside from the Mesa 2:90s, he runs the POD Pro into a Line6 Echo Pro and a Line6 Mod Pro. He also has a rack-mounted tuner and an EQ.
Absolutely amazing show, even though Doug was sick as a dog and actually had the house bring him some Vicks spray to use for his throat on stage. At one point, he walked over to Ty and said "I can't do Vegetable. I just can't." So instead, they did an instrumental version of Goldilox with the audience singing the words. They also started "It's Love" three times because Ty forgot the words the first time (and had to ask the audience how the song goes
and he was out of tune the second time. Third time was a charm.
Personally, the only disappointment was that "Over My Head" was supposed to be last song of the encore, but they skipped it and ended the show one song early because of Doug's cold. It's the song that introduced me to the band and is still one of my favorites fourteen years later.
I highly recommend everyone catch this show if they come to your town.

They did Over my Head as Doug's Mom and family was in the audience. He's from my home town ( Joliet-Lockport area) so he said that his Mom wanted him to play that, and he said, "You GOTTA do what your Mom says, man." Great show...
BTW, thanx Jason, thanx for the clarification of the rest of Ty's gear, I was on Doug's side and could make out the Alesis EQ and Korg tuner, but I'd never seen the other line 6 gear b4.

Bamm,
Thanks for the review and the link. They will be playing in Cincinnati on May 16. I am going to have to go. I have been listening to them since I heard "Shot of Love" way back when.

I've been a fan since my older sister bought Out Of a Silent Planet a billion years ago. I've seen them twice, but it's been a while. I was always amazed at how low Doug wears his bass... also, both times I saw them he stepped on his cord and unplugged his bass like 4 times!
Anyway, just checked the tour schedule and of course they aren't coming anywhere near here... New Orleans music scene is dead.
