Re: Porcupine Tree 2007 Tour

Thanks for the reminder! I had Ticketmaster set to tell me when PT tickets went on sale in Boston, but they didn't. But it looks like they're playing a venue that's general admission, and tickets were still available so I grabbed a pair(I'm sure my girlfriend will be "thrilled" haha). Any Boston people been to the Roxy? Is it as sketchy as it sounds?

Last time they came around, they played Berklee in Boston and it was incredible. They played almost all of their new album and then a bunch of stuff from Deadwing and In Absentia until Steve's voice crapped out.

Can't wait! NYC and Philly shows are nearby. Does anyone know if they change their setlist from night to night, or would I be seeing the same show in NYC as in Philly?

There is a sample from new album available on their youtube site. Enjoy!

Re: Porcupine Tree 2007 Tour

1st Tree show in Chicago tonight, Robert Fripp is opening up.
SOLD OUT
Next show is June 1st (My B-day) I don't think I'll make that one, wifey has plans.

Anyway, if anyone here is going, lemme know, my offer of the 1st round stands for any shows I'm at. I've only met a small handful of Jemsiters, so the more the merrier. I'm there with my drummer tonight.

Re: Porcupine Tree 2007 Tour

I've got tickets for May 25th in Boston, if anyone's going to that one as well. If anyone's on the fence, definitely go - Porcupine Tree is one of the best live bands I've ever seen, and their new stuff is the heaviest they've done yet. It should make for a hell of an evening.

Re: Porcupine Tree 2007 Tour

Great show, but they had a blown tweeter on my side of the stage, so all the "S" sounds were raspy and sibilant.
That aside, they did a little of everything focusing mainly on the new album "Fear of a Blank Planet" The multimedia crapped out halfway through the show, it was a MAC... Hmm, so much for impervious and perfect, eh?
Anyway, the one thing that I thought was overdone was the disenfranchised youth popping pills in all the videos. About 75% of the songs featured that theme one way or another.
That said, they are STILL a great live show and excellent players so go see 'em. The did their encore with "Even Less", Blackest Eyes" and "Halo"

Great set.

Bamm sleep now.

The video for the new album's title track is pretty much all shots of kids brandishing pills, guns, and playing video games, but I agree that Steve's fixation on that imagery (that pervades most of the album) is odd. The whole "dysfunctional kids" theme has been pretty much overdone by every single nu-metal band.

Still looking forward to the show, though. They played the new album in its entirety the last time they came through and they were awesome.

Re: Porcupine Tree 2007 Tour

Boston show was last night- great performance although the sound was way too bassy at the beginning of the show. They played a couple songs I've never heard, one outtake from In Absentia called "Drown with Me," which was awesome. They played "Sever" from Signify so I was a very happy camper. I wish they would have played "Even Less," but I think they ran out of time. The club they were at, like most in Boston that have live music on weekends, try to have the live music early then at 10pm let DJ Popped-Collar and the Shiny Shirt Brigade take over the club.

It sucks the show was cut short for "Faux" entertainment.
At least you got to go.
They are coming back around on June 1st (My B-day)
Dunno if I'll make that show or not.

I never followed up on this one.

That show was officially the drunkest I've ever been at a concert. I was there with my roommate and Chris from sevenstring.org as well as some girl he knew, and the three of us tend to drink our faces off whenever we hang out together. I remember the opener (I had no idea it was going to be 3 - "Wake Pig" is an awesome album), I remember most of the first set, but the second set is just gone. we did a LOT of Jager shots (I was one of three or four people buying rounds, and I racked up a $100 tab at the bar) and then got into that Moonshots caffinated beer **** because they had nothing else. I still don't entirely know how I got home.

I'd have felt bad about it, but that was like the third time I'd seen PT, and I was dead sober the first couple so I guess it was good to get the "watching PT smashed out of my mind" experience out of my system.

Emphasis on "try."

No Boston dates? Man... I mean, I'll be out of the country that month anyway, but I'd rather know I missed them a T ride away than a 3-hour drive out to Albany...

I need to see if I can get to the Beacon Theater show or the one in AC. I haven't seen them yet.
