REVIEW: Steve Vai and the Metropole Orchestra...

Even though it's the first review of the concert, it doesn't mean it's a positive one.

What a bummer. I don't mean the concert but those f*cking trains in The Netherlands. I went off for the concert well planned, the trains only ride until 0:00h so we had to leave the concert earlier anyway. I live in the south of The Netherlands which means I have to sit in the train for about two hours.

I arrived at the concert at 20:30h which was good; we didn't miss the opening; a guy (Co de Cloet I think, the guy from the NPS interviews with steve vai:http://www.omroep.nl/nps/4fm/). The Metropole Orchestra would first play some pieces alone, which took about one hour and 15 minutes! MAN! Then finally Steve came up, which was very cool, he played Kill the guy with the ball together with the orchestra and then it came: (I quote Steve) "Now we're gonna take a 15 minute break...." Oh my god I thought; this can't be real.... Then when he came up again I had to leave and the concert was over for me....#$%%^*(*&$#@$#@ I was SO pissed (can u imagine?)!

I was there for 1 hours and 15 minutes, but only saw Vai for 5 friggin' minutes....AAARgHHN@#

Maybe you don't care, but because all kind of delays on the trains I missed almost every train I wanted to catch and ended up in the middle of The Netherlands with no train driving nomore... I slept on the station, woke up at 6:00am and went home. I feel like I'm gonna kill somebody.

That's my review.... Maybe someone else has a positive review??

BTW. For the interested: Before the break Vai played a JEM7VSBL, and I just saw him picking up EVO/FLO after the break. Maybe I'll post my photos here soon (the few I was able to make).

// ADMIN NOTE: Please useth thy mighty power to moveth this thread to the appropriate section, I'm sorry to be bad on this one...

...grrrrr... 2 hours sleep tonight...but it was it worth!!!

I went sunday to the paradiso to see the show. I arrived around 4pm at the paradiso. I was hanging around and looking if I could pay the 2.5 euro fee before the doors opened. I searched and entrance and a roadie showed me the way in. I walked inside and followed the guitarsound... Before I knew it I was at the rehearsalt of the show and Steve was playing the end part of FTLOG!! Amazing!
After 1 minute a member of the crew saw I wasn't allowed there and he sent me outside....damn...

At the show I was standing as close as you can get...let's say 2 meter.

The concert is built up in 2 parts, first of all 6 pieces without Vai onstage. The orchestra played old orchestral pieces Vai wrote in the Zappa and Berklee days. They also played some pieces of his known music (little green man, bangkok, balerina) without guitar.

Before the break Steve came up and played kill the guy with the ball. He played it on a jem7VBL. They took a 15 min. break.

After this, Vai took Flo for the rest of the show. He played trough 2 legacy heads and 3 2x12 cabs. He had a tc G-force, a bad horsie and an alligator...and a lots of fingers
The opening song was one of AIAUW. So good. They played Liberty, FTLOG, Answers, Attitude song... and more guitar-freak and guitar-less songs.

This show was so unique in a way that it shows the real quality of Vai as a composer. His orchestral music was so intense, unique, sweet, frighting, beautifull, fragile, bombastic..I can't express this by words.

If you want to know how it sounded like, take a classical FZ album like orchestral favorites and listen.

To all of you who will see him tonight, enjoy the show!!

ah.. i feel sorry for you man But i don't get it? The last train i took went at 23.29 uur. ( to rotterdam cs ) And other trains to other cities went this late as well? errr.. maybe not on sundays. Anway i was there yesterday and i enjoyed every second of the show. I think the orchestra part itself was already worth the money

There was a big accident with two trains at the Amsterdam central station a week ago; there was only one train available per hour...AND I had to switch trains twice...Aaah, f*ck it. I've seen the Metropole Orchestra for 1,5 hours which was very good.
