My first time seeing DT live. Here's the setlist:
-New Millenium
-6:00
-Surrounded
-The Great Debate
-Long Medly of various instrumental sections from entire DT catalog (various parts of Scenes From A Memory, Erotomania, A Change Of Seasons, Yste Jam, Liquid Tension Experiment including Universal Mind, and many, many more)
-Lines in the Sand (short version) with Doug Pinnick on backing vocals
-Spirit Carries On
-Solitary Shell
-About to Crash (Reprise)
-Learning to Live
I had Pit tickets for this show so I was able to stand about three feet away from JP during the entire DT set. I'm still on a high after watching that show. LITS w/Doug on backing vocals was just a bonus. My only disappointment was they made the version shorter by ending the song before JP's solo. The rest of the setlist and the performance itself more than made up for it. James' vocals were "ON" that night. What a tight band! Also, very cool that they opened w/New Millenium so you could see John Myung play the Chapman Stick. For as many times as I've seen Satch, I never seem to think he'll blow me away. Was I ever wrong. A stunning performance. As usual, he is touring w/Marshall heads and had only two 4X12 cabs on stage (side by side), and a handful of stomp boxes. The mahogany 7-string looks pretty straightforward. Both Joe and the 2nd guitarist played identical mahogany ones for "Mindstorm" and "7 String". Satch's real gift is the ever-so-slight improvistation and variation that he throws into the old favorites. I also like that he never plays his little jazz intro on "Cool #9" quite the same every time. All in all, it was worth every penny. Also got a quick autograph from Mr. Petrucci after the show. For those of you that have tickets to the shows, you are in for real treat! I can only imagine the shows getting better from here.
