Saw Rush in NYC 8.18.04

What a great show! They played from 8pm to 11:25 with a 25 minute break. The three of them are getting older, but don't miss a beat. Their enrgy level was high all night.

The high point of the show for me was Between the Wheels from Grace Under Pressure...One of my favorite songs - never heard that one live before. I guess they have to play some newer songs, but what they're doing now doesn't do it for me. They did only 3 new songs and I couldn't get into any of them. Unfortunately, they didn't do anything from Presto.

Alex's guitar sound was MONSTROUS!
He got caught up in that awful chorus on distortion sound for a while a few years ago, I'm glad he's moved away from that (Eddie VH follow suit!)

He was using two Hughes and Kettner (sp?) heads. He used about 6 guitars all night, the one that got the most play was a plain-jane black PRS, no birds. He had a PRS LP with a gorgeous top on it (with birds). He did Xanadu on a white Gibson (?) doubleneck and he used what I think was a reissue of his white 335 from the old days...it just looked 'whiter' than the old one, but they did make a point in the video show of showing pic of him with the old one during whatever song he used it on (can't remember)

Anybody else been to this tour? I'm surprised to not see any other reviews up.

He's had his 355 restored by Gibson. Remember it used to have a floating trem on it?

I saw Rush in NJ a week ago. Lawn seats in the rain - great set though. Alex used a nice goldtop Les Paul, PRS (one black, one singlecut), Tele, SG doubleneck, LP Custom, also an acoustic - may have been a Martin - not sure due to rain - extreme distance from stage... Great set!

Rush are playing London tonight (and did last night) but I can't make it.
Did anyone go to see them last night?
I had to watch my Vapour Trails DVD (Rush in Rio) instead and kick myself for not getting a ticket earlier.

Manchester 12/9

Well... that was my second rush show ever... 21 years after I'd seen them last (here in the UK for the Signals tour!)

It was great. As a kid I was really into the earlier rush but they came alive for me with Signals/Grace Under Pressure/Power Windows era.

The Manchester show went down very well. Best sound I've ever heard in the (usually appalling) MEN arena.

From a Guitar perspective Alex was chopping and changing instruments a lot and achieved a great pallette of tones from the guitars he was using.

Only a few dates remaining now in Europe... if you have half a chance to attend then don't hesitate - go to a show!
