Zappa Plays Zappa Melbourne First show - short review

Hi all just got back from Zappa Plays Zappa, and WOW. What an Awesome show.

Dweezil is a fantastic guitarist, and a real great guy, I think he signed 200 Autographs at the end of the concert.

Dweezil was humble and didn't really over play the Im soloing act. It was just pure music.

Vai came out and the crowd went nuts. He was his usual self, but dressed down in a 70's feel outfit, like the rest of the band, and didn't really over power anyone. As well he shouldn't, because its a Zappa show not a Vai show, and it was very respectful etc...

Dweezil was amazed at how many young people came out to appreciate his fathers music and after stating that he actual shed a tear. Which of course is completly understandable. I can't imagine how he tours playing his dads music and playing along with the video and Audio of his father.

I had 2nd row seats and was about 2 guitar lengths away from the stage, best seats iv had in a long time.

If your thinking of getting zappa tickets, I suggest do it, you wont regret it.

Two thumbs up !!!

Be prepared to wait more than half the show before Vai comes out, unless they changed the song order etc.. Vai will appear for about 4 to 6 songs, I can't remember exactly. In melbourne he was on the right side of the stage. He used EVO and FLO and switched about 6 times during the different songs.

He really didn't do that much, but still when God steps out on stage, you can't be upset, it was awesome ....

Dunno - can't remember his name, but yes, he is absolutely outstanding - a very understated player - he let loose on one song at the Sydney show on Monday night and probably played the best lead break of all three guitarists.

Probably the best concert I have been too - and at $89.50AUD, I think we worked out that it was 43 cents a minute - that's value!!!!

I guess it would have been about .000895 cents per note, based on a mean figure of about a million notes over the evening!

For anyone in Sydney who is a Zappa fan, we have our very own collection of Zappa fanatics, playing in a band called Petulant Frenzy at Bar Broadway on 22nd December - some of the best (and most twisted) musos in the country by the way! No, I'm not in the band BTW......

Damn...I wish that tour came to the UK.

I would love to go see that, it sounded brilliant!
