A thoughtful piece of advice.

Upon meeting Steve this past June in Perth at the signing he and the band held I mentioned to TMac Vai and Billy that I was surprised that the guys shook hands with the public as I mentioned that their hands were too valuable to be doing this. To me Steve replied "they're no more valuable than your hands" which I thought was a really good thing to say and it made me realise how wonderfully humane Dr. Vai really is.

So what's the advice?

I think Steve said this just because he's a nice guy. I can say his hands are definitely more valuable than mine. :0) He maybe just got used to having them and doesn't notice their value anymore.

I dunno. That's hard to quantify. I mean, I make my living with my hands, too. My hands are more valuable *to me* than his are. His may be considered more valuable to more people, so maybe in a universal sense... but then a heart surgeon's hands would probably trump a guitarist's. ...what a wacky subject...

I think the advice is that a public relations class can go a long way in certain careers.
