Amazing artist I just discovered

OMFG! This guy is simply amazing. His name is Cesar Huesca. He has several Vai and Satch covers on YouTube, but this link is his original stuff.

It could very well be that he doesn't have that (aching) hunger to be a Steve Vai (i.e. he's insane)

I listed to 24/7 and indeed he is good.

My main gripe is that it doesn't sound very original. His tone reminds me of early Vai/Satch. Granted it is really difficult to sound original nowadays, in my opinion.

I just listened to the other stuff he has and it is all pretty good. Yes, you can hear the Vai, Satch influence in his work, but his other songs show his versatility and are more original. I don't know if I should be inspired or depressed! LOL

I'll tell you one reason and one reason only: He sounds exactly like Vai.

If you read about Vai's Favored Nations record label, he specifically stated that he doesn't want people that sound like an SRV clone, or people that sound like Vai himself, etc. He wants originality. Sure, this guy has very good chops, but his work sounds too much like your average Vai clone shred fest.

That's just my opinion though.

Am I the only one that isn't that impressed?, he could hold his own in a signed band but he's nothing special.

He is very, very good. There are a couple other guys out there that I really enjoy as well. Bryan K comes to mind. He's a regular on the Vai and Carvin forums. My only gripe is the same as most everyone else, although these guys are awesome, they are too Vai and/or Satriani derivative to turn a label's ear. Both are young guys though and the spark of originality could happen at any moment. Best wishes to them both.
