An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess

Just bought the CD, haven't listened to it yet. Although in the liner notes, the following line is the last of the notes:

Anyone know what this means? (other than the fact the album is released on Favored Nations...)

ditto man!

BTW...go out and buy this album now. Petrucci can get a little annoying, but it's a great semi-mellow jazz/soft rock album with a bit of an edge here and there. Very good and well written (although I guess the original was probably too )

This "wide" re-release of "An evening..." comes from Favored Nations cause (as the story goes) once Steve listened to the album he was determined to see it released porperly...

Quote:
What resulted was a display of unparalleled musicianship and spontaneity so spectacular, when Steve Vai recently heard the album for the first time, he knew within seconds he wanted his Favored Nations label to properly release it.
Im sure its also some recognition from John for the influence, or maybe theyre all best buddies since G3 and stuff ...

btw, i had it downloaded from the previous cd, now my FN cd has already shipped and should get home in a couple weeks.... cant wait!

What problems or issues did they have with the original release?

Actually...I just figured out something extremely weird....

Long before this re-release came out, my friend had downloaded a song on some P2P network that had just a guitarist and a pianist...I could tell it was Petrucci, and it had one of the most beautiful melodies I had ever heard. Well, turns out the song was "State of Grace." I just looked at the track listing on the old 'An Evening with..." and I noticed "State of Grace" wasn't a track on there. . It sounded way too good to be a bootleg, and I think it was a different version that what's on the re-release, but I could be wrong. Was "State of Grace" released on anything else?

I would say it's more for the influence than anything else. They could have released it on a ton of different labels, no sweat.

JP used to talk about how all his influences on guitar were either named Steve (Vai, Morse), or Al (Lifeson, Di Meola), so that's what I think.

But how many would treat them as well?

Good point there, Hand-y Man. I wish I could get our band on that label, but I think we have too much vocal work on our stuff.

I dunno if there were any "problems" with it (i dont even know if they "cleaned it up" for this one), but the old release was very limited in numbers and wasnt available anymore...
