Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List

Its a better list, but any list that ignores Ron Thal deseves my contempt.

Humph! Also i didn't see Joe Pass there, one of my own personal fave players.

Nice to see Phil Keaggy at 16. I never miss seeing him perform when he tours here. Just amazing with the acoustic guitar.

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List

Yep, have to agree with the Phil Keaggy comment - the guy just blew me away the last time I saw him and I don't even know his songs!

About this list - who gives a crap where other people rank guitarists, just play your own guitar and be happy there are at least 100 other big name guitarists for us to rip off licks and riffs.

Yep, especially when players like Frampton, Slash, and Leslie West are above him.

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List

I believe it's more of a pr thing. And it also implies that the edge is more known or "famous" if you like, among non guitar players.

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List

The fact jimmy page isnt at the top (and mick tompson sint on it at all) means this list isnt totally based on popularity but theres still hints of it like with the edge.

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List

I belive that 3rd place for page is no difference then 1st place for hendrix. they had to put someone first didn't they, and they still make movies about hendrix don't they , but I'm not gonna start an argument here because it's not that important, and I need to go and have some breakfast now. It's 8 am here in israel

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List

But hendrix is different because of the whole invented modern guitar and way ahead of his time thing, its understandable that people would think hes the greatest. Page was always at the top because he wrote stairway to heaven.

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List

Playing fast doesn't always determine the better of two guitarists. I love Lynch, but in my opinion, Leslie West was relatively a better musician in his time frame.

It's all a matter of perspective. Of course, we know Vai can "play" better than Hendrix or Page, but alot of it is sheer innovativeness.

It's all opinion so no one is right or wrong, but I *still* say Lynch is way better than Frampton, Slash and Leslie West no matter the time frame.
