You probably should have made the list if Slash did. Lynch is Slash's, Frampton's and West's daddy.

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List
I dont mind what order the people I think are the greats are in but I do care when theres people who are just there because of popularity are higher than the greats.
I dont have any worries about the top twenty at least.

Andy Timmons
at 154 is a bit too low, but a big factor in these lists is notoriety.

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List
I agree with Ollie, it's a very comprehensive list...we've all got our own list anyway, no 2 lists will be the same.
I agree that Edge deserves to be there (no he does not tap or sweep pick but still innovative and musical IMO)
The
Pearl Jam
and Oasis guy should not be there IMO.
Sorry but I don't get the Lynch thing. Excellent player and everything but not my cuppa unfortunately.

Definitely agree with The Edge - a very clever guitarist

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List
The only way everyone will be happy is if there is a shred list, a punk list, blues etc.
One list will never ever be completely right for anyone one person, they have to accomadate for everyones favourites in one list.

Re: Another Top 100 Guitar Players List
I'm not going to comment on all 200, but I think Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard (#192) definitely deserves a good placement, as a rhythm guitarist he is on par with Page, EvH or Kim thayell (#171),
alternate tunings
, alternate rhythms, inversions, partial chords. His colleague Mike McCready - Pearl Jam is #79. Mike is great fun to watch, but he is, in all fairness, as a solo guitarist very derivative of Hendrix.
Most of those duos (or more) should really have shared places (Kirk&James, Stone&Mike, Yannick&Adrian&Dave, etc.)
As for The Edge, apart from a brilliant songwriter and rhythm guitarist, he also adds great soloing, very few 'pop'-guitarists (for lack of a better word) have such a wide idiom of styles, his use of echo, ebow (sustainers) even slide, was already legendary before the 90s had even started. Yet he still managed to push the boundaries even further.
I do think Robby Krieger is missing from this list, as is Brian Jones. And the highly underrated Charlie Burchill (one of Ibanez' first big endorsees) Just listen to his stuff on "Live in the city of Light" some of his solos are Petrucci meets Billy Duffy meets Gilmore, all of whom are on the list :S

I personally thinks it's great to see Joe, Steve, John and Pablo above the fury
7. Joe Satriani - Solo
8.
Ritchie Blackmore
- Deep Purple, Rainbow, Blackmores Night
9. Steve Vai - David Lee Roth, Whitesnake, Solo
10. David Gilmour - Pink Floyd, Solo
11. John Petrucci - Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment
12. Randy Rhoads* - Quiet Riot, Ozzy
13. Allan Holdsworth - Solo
14. Paul Gilbert - Mr. Big, Racer X, Solo
15. Yngwie Malmsteen - Rising Force, Solo
You can't really argue with the top6, but to round out the top10, I would've wanted at least another metal great, Dimebag (#40), Iommie, Roads or Mustaine, plus Peter Green (#41) should've been higher.

Uhhhhhh, originally you said that it was a travesty that Lynch wasn't in the top 100 and I agreed with you and puzzled over how Frampton, Slash, or West could be above him. In other words, I was agreeing with you, I guess to you that means I want to get into an argument with you and am a loser.

I hate top players lists!
They are so pointless. It's not like they have listened to every single guitarist and band. [cough]nevermore[/cough]
