Question

Any bottleneck/slide players on jemsite?

Just curious, I'm an avid bottleneck and slide player. I play all styles with it, not just blues, although I do love to play blues. Just wondering if anyone else here played slide.

I started off playing the Allman Bros. and used to be able to play most of Live at the Fillmore East. A budy of mine and I worked out most of Pony Boy also. Have not done it in a while ...like 15 yrs...so I probably suck now.

What stuff you in to?

I play all kinds of stuff. Country, jazz, blues. I'm really into a player by the name of David Tronzo. He plays some wild jazz stuff and can actually play some fast bebop lines on slide. I also dig Eric Sardinas too. My roots began right where everyone else who's into slide does: with the Allman Bros Band. I play slide a great deal and I like that because it separates me from all the other guitarists in my area. I play both pretty well but I've got some catch up to do on slide since I've only recently started working on it. I try to apply it in a universal sense across all styles and not just blues, which is very challenging because that's the comfort zone for any slide player. It's fun though and Slide playing has made me a better.

Definetly makes you think more about your note choice considering the limiting factors it has on speed and such.

That makes me imagine a guitar player completely shredding at like 208 with a slide, now that would be something different! I never really got into it though, I could never see me using the technique in the stuff I write so I guess that's why.

I can play some pretty quick runs. Still working at it. A teacher of mine challenged me to do a version of flight of the bumblebee. Which would be awesome but tricky as hell.
