Re: Any one here bored of Shred guitar?
I kinda go into phases when I get bored of something I goes something like this
metal
alt metal
rock
alt rock
ska Reggae
Jazz
rocka billie
then it goes back up
weird huh? Idk every one gets bored, so I try everthing, but now its like I listen to everything because I found loves of all genres. It also depends on what mood youe in.

Re: Any one here bored of Shred guitar?
The only "shredder" music I can stand is Vai, Satch, Gilbert, and Mattias Eklundh.
I find them to be more musical than the rest. Very interesting ideas. Vai brings on the strange wierdness, Satch does the bluesy out-worldly anthems and crazy sounds, Gilbert just burns your face with terror death licks, and Mattias makes his guitar do crazy stuff. He has an extreme control over the notes, but he doesn't just shred up and down (I cant stand that)
I used to listen to alot of classic rock, which I like, but I've gotten really tired of it.
I want some fresh music thats GOOD.
Lately, ive been on a heavy Red Hot Chili Peppers binge. . .Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Californication have been playing nonstop in my car for like 2 weeks.
I even got inspired to play bass! I got an OLP MM2 bass, and I'm having SOOOO much fun laying down the funk.
Lately, Ive considered joining a punk band just for the hell of it, for a fresh breath of air.

Very good point IMO...
Steve Vai
loves to listen to Tom Waitts! So I checked Tom out but couldn't really get into it, but I guess Vai thinks it's good for a reason. He also recommended Eric Sardinhas which I think is amazing....if you thought SRV had tone and attitude listen to Eric.
Shredding? I do a bit of shredding and am in awe of people who do it well.... very few can do it "musically" though (I sure can't)...it can be used brilliantly or it can totally kill a song IMO, my 2 cents as usual....

Re: Any one here bored of Shred guitar?
sometimes it helps to just listen to music that doesn't have guitar in it period. i definitely get burnt out on guitar music every once in awhile, but we humans need variety. listening to non-guitar jazz or old school r&b (for example) rejuvenates my ear, and you get to hear different grooves, arrangements and songwriting. you can get some great ideas from different genres, even stuff that you may initially abhor (like pop and hip hop).

Re: Any one here bored of Shred guitar?
I just listen to the radio every once in a while, or even to some orchestral stuff I've got on my PC (some of it ripped from PC games, would you believe?) if I feel like a change from my usual prog/instrumental songs.

Re: Any one here bored of Shred guitar?
When i get sick of guitar music, I listen to/learn some bach, pagnini or chopin.
I'd rather listen to things with no guitar than things with crap guitar.

Re: Any one here bored of Shred guitar?
I like shred, but I also think that it would make good torture music if you had to listen to ALL Yngwie-ALL THE TIME 24/7.
I love SRV too, but if I only had da blues, I'd only have DA BLUES- KNOW WHAT I'M SAY'N?
I think I would become a serial killer if I listened to opera all day long too (or even a few minutes).
MORAL IS THIS: it's all good - in moderation.
1) A few adult beverages is fun- downing a 16-pack yourself is not.
2) Driving is fun - but driving 110 mph tends to ruin one's day.
3) ...your response here........

Re: Any one here bored of Shred guitar?
I like Petrucci a lot because he sort of uses his fast picking and sweeping as "weapons" while he is playing. A big part of music is tension and release, and an uber-fast shred lick sounds great after some big bends and slides, etc.

I love Vai, I'm not a fan of pertrucci, he's a great player he just seems a bit arrogant and ****y to me. I don't dig malmsteen at all. I do like Satch tho. Basically the guys who can play but are more inventive are cool. Guys that are just fast bore the hell out of me.

OMFG you call petrucci arrogant and not vai. We all know how good vai is but petrucci is on another level. Listen to some Liquid Tension Experiment.

Re: Any one here bored of Shred guitar?
I only listen to shred about 10-20% of the time, other than that its mostly just metal like Lamb of God or Shadows Fall and so on....mainly because I can actually play that stuff and 95% of the "shred" stuff I listen to I can't play....yet
