Any Sonata Arctica fans?

Just throwing this out there because theyre one of my favourite bands that don't get discussed much. They're starting to gain a bit of popularity over in the US since theyre doing a number of tour dates over there.

Anybody going to one of their shows this year? I've seen them on the only two occasions they've come to the UK and I've already got my place booked for their third appearance in November!

Even though they've just fired him, their old guitarist had some sweet Ibanez customs. His 7 string destroyer was my favourite - http://www.sonataarctica.info/pics/g...2007_jani2.jpg

Their new guitarist apparently plays Jem and Universe guitars but I haven't seen any pics yet - guess I'll have to wait and see.

Yeah man, I was pretty pissed off about it when I found out too.

The reasons are pretty sketchy at the moment, but I guess he must have done something pretty out of order to get the boot.

Re: Any Sonata Arctica fans?

Was something to do with his national service, big disappointment.

Jani rocked, i think it was his guitar playing which gave SA their edge over so many other power metal bands who just chug along power chords.

Did Jani do the guitars for Unia or did the new guy? either way that album seems like a departure from their previous ones.

yeah it sucks, but, hey thats life and if the new guy does as well as they say, then everything should be OK.

according to the website Jani did do the guitars on the album..

I wouldn't call myself a "fan", but they've got some solid stuff.

I love Sonata Arctica's first four CDs after that their singles are good but the albums as wholes suck.

Re: Any Sonata Arctica fans?

I dig Sonata.

Jani sold his custom Ibanez 7 string explorer to someone on another forum, then that member sold it to the new guitarist that replaced Jani. Interesting, huh?

Love their stuff, and I'm hopefully going to their show in a few months, though I have only gotten into them recently, and don't know much apart from the fact that they have more keyboard solos than guitar solos.
