astoria stuff!

hey i dont mean to sound obnoxious or anything but anyways heres the thing: the other day it was pouring down so i decided to stay in and watch the live in astoria dvd best one i reckon-better than denver g3, any way in the final tapping section of erotic nightmares i noticed a horrendous continuity error!! here it is and i was just wondering if anyone else had some not neccesseeraily from the same dvd to add!!
1)one minute; in the final tapping section at end of erotic nightmares Dave Weiner's guitar is visibly that cool red 7 string, however in the following shots this guitar changes a couple of times from red to green! back to red etc. i know this cannot be a result of the lighting and other aspects of filiming as i do study film so i can pretty confidently tell the difference.
2)this is also apparent with Tony Mcalpine's guitar i cant remember which song(s) it was but his guitar continually changes colour from that dark greeny look to a dark brown look!
3)not really a flaw just thought i'd say dont you think its weird that once you finish watching the dvd it feels as though time has moved to quickly however if you still want to traverse through timespace further-just go to audio options and enable the commentary i found it made time pass 5x times quicker!! Steve mentions that on the day the sound recording and general playing on some of the numbers was very bad so they mixed it with the night befores and i think other shows, weird i didnt think steve would have to do that sort of thing!
Finaly steve mentions that harmonic in "the animal" needed to be "fixed" because he forgot to play the note, any way he plays like ahalf a billion notes anyway so i suppose he's allowed to forget just one!

finally i know how much you guys/girls/both... have been dying for a decent tab of tune from this dvd and so i'm glad to say i've finished tabbing it out and should have it up by tommorow!!! dont get your hopes up though i did just tab it a few hours ago so it might be a bit rough!!!

finally how many times did i say finally!!??!!

Was Tony using his Harlequin Prismatic Carvin in the section you mentioned? If so, it does change color depending on the angle and lighting. As for the rest, you answered your own question already... selective editing which probably was chosen for sound over visual continuity. I personally don't think it was necessary, mistakes happen playing live, but it's not my DVD.

Re: astoria stuff!

If you didn't listen to the commentary, they played and filmed the astoria show two different nights. Both nights (in which different guitars were used) were edited together. For some reason they didn't seem to care, or just missed the errors. There are also a couple of parts in which the sound does not correctly match up with the video. In other words the editing wasn't that great. Vai said one of the problems was that the camera work was not very good. It was a quick idea so Vai didn't get to tell the camera crew exactly what he wanted. Because of this, there isn't always a lot of shots of their playing (like fingers). There are more face shots and things people don't really care about. I think this is why they didn't care about those errors. Simply because there weren't enough good shots.

I believe also that Vai mentioned at one point on one of the DVDs that there was something either out of tune or he hit a bad note, and during editing of the DVD he corrected it so it wouldn't be on there.

Vai fixed the first note in "Liberty" because "It was all kinds of wrong" .

Watch Steve's guitars. They change frequently during songs ... particularly between EVO and EVO II, but sometimes to FLO and back. There are quite a few of them in there.

True, he broke a string on the BH on one of the nights so switched to the 7Vwh, it must have turned out that the only worthy shots of that part of the song were from the night when the string broke, so that's why the 7v's there
