An old band I was in was called "Draggin' Alice" I always dug that name.....

If you want to make a statement and get yourself noticed...think of a name that will piss off the special interest groups..."Pro-nuclear whale killers wearing mink" is a perfect example.

Just whatever name you decide on, don't get your photo made in standing front of a brick wall or on railroad tracks.

Re: BAND NAMES

what always works for me is grabbing a magazine and looking at titles of articles within it.
in front of my I have the Economist issue for March 14-March 20 2009, and Cigar Aficionado for feb 2009
i will post names of articles and show you how awesome these band names would sound:

Cigar Aficionado:

What you should do about Cuba
a time for change
taste the spirit
the perfect hour
the scarf revisited
the original score
Aero Bang
comes in from the cold
Talking with Castro
Never Smoke Alone
After the Storm

Economist:

Compounding the Crime
The Better part of Valour
Just when you thought it was safe
Fire in the Hole
the Final Reel
Naked Aggression
Sound and Fury
Double Strike
Global heroes
United States of Entrepreneurs
For the World
Glimpse of Daylight
Shadow of the Past
all sins forgiven
the toxins trickle downwards
and now for a nuclear remake
beyond the grave
empire dreams

and on and on and on..... none of these were edited. if you don't believe me, you can pull the magazines yourself and read them in order and trying to find them on the pages!!

Re: BAND NAMES

To Do This 1 - Go to "wikipedia." Hit "random" or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. 2 - Go to "Random quotations" or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album. 3 - Go to flickr and click on "explore the last seven days" or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. 4 - Use photoshop or similar to put it all together. 5 - Post it to FB with this text in the "caption" and TAG the friends you want to join in. (you can untag yourself if you don't want this photo up)

Re: BAND NAMES

We used to change names once a week as a goof, when we weren't out playing Anything that sounds funny after, "Ladies and Gentlemen,..." works. We made some up, but others we took out of Racing Forms or the newspapers where the horses and races were listed. Race horses sometimes have decent names you could pinch for a band name. I'm looking at one now online, and I see "Beckon the king" was 'trapped in traffic'. You could use either of those in a pinch.

That, my friend, is a very clever solution! There are at least six really good possibilities in your examples alone!

Re: BAND NAMES

Well let's try and figure this out:

I personally (because I am basically an 80's rocker) take some kind of sexual reference or act and modify the words until they aren't offensive. I have used Whiskerless Kitten (shaven *****) for years and I can't see that changing.

Think of your favourite sex act, position, body part of your chosen sex partner or whatever and just modify it, although I think someone else has already done beef curtains. I guess if you wanted to be more death metal you could try something more grown up, but I can't think why you would.

Personally I liked "Meeting Lisa".

Re: BAND NAMES

Some formulas maybe to avoid or use
<action word> + <word or name> such as Craving Jane or Booted Fist
<adjective> + <word or name> such as Deadly Jane or Fat Assassin
<number> + <something> Two in the Bush
<Biblical Reference> Genesis Zero, Apocalypse Begins
<Double-play> A Darkest Black, The Brightest White
<Opposites play> Deafening Silence, Blinding Darkness, Shocking Stillness

What you could do is plug your names into an anagram generator and see what interesting thing comes out.
