Best Paul Gilbert CD

I never have had a gilbert cd but i really want to get one but not sure which one. I like shredding but not constant unmelodic yngwie type kindof stuff, and i do like good acoustic stuff a lot. What do you think is his best album?

Re: Best Paul Gilbert CD

Get yourself Burning Organ and Acoustic Samurai and you'll be sorted. Or you could just go for his best of called Paul The Young Dude, its got some great tracks and mine came as a double with Gilbert Hotel, which has great acoustic tracks.

The first track off "Paul the Young Dude" is "I'm not afraid of the police today" and it sums him up nicely. If you like that tune you'll like the majority Gilbert's other stuff.

Re: Best Paul Gilbert CD

Are there any instrumentals on these cd's or just vocal tracks? What sort of style are they? I was a big Gilbert fan around the Mr Big early days, but they got really weak in the end and my musical tastes took me on a different journey. The old Racer X stuff was virtually impossible to get over here years ago.I have Live:Extreme Volume on vinyl somewhere and Street Lethal on cd,and i love this stuff.Bit wary of getting other stuff and being disappointed.I like the first Mr Big cd,2nd was ok,3rd was crap IMO.I like rock/metal and good guitar stuff.Where do his solo albums fit in??

Re: Best Paul Gilbert CD

Umm, catchy punk/rock/metal/pop with great shreddy/souful solo's all mix up in one package.

I have to say this is one of the advantages of file sharing...

I downloaded a few albums, decided they were AWESOME, bought his entire back catalogue, bought all his live DVD's, bought a few of his signature guitars and will continue to support him by going seeing him live and buying any of his future releases. I stand 100% by that, and I'd go as to say I like him more than Vai these days (or just as much as, depends on my mood ) I never would've done all this had I not done the ol' "try before you buy".

Oh, but file-sharing is bad, yep, work of the devil

That thousands of £'s we're talking here!
