Blink-182

I've been kinda a fan of these guys for a while, because sometimes I just love a good catchy fun punk song, but haven't bought any of their CDs. I may have to pick up the new one. After hearing the three singles from it and seeing the videos ("Feeling This", "Miss You", and "Down") and seeing them perform "Down" on Letterman tonight, it's definitely confirming the reviews I've heard that said it's a great, and very different album. The performance tonight was insane. They ended it with an extended drum solo. Travis really makes that band what it is, and he seems to have turned the other guys onto experimenting more with the sound of the band. That guy can really play drums, and is one of my favorite drummers to just watch because he's got such a clear style to his playing. They still aren't great singers at times, especially live, but you can tell they're growing up and getting into trying new things more.

And when I found out that they recorded the new album completely analogue (even the flanger effects on "Feeling This" and backwards piano parts on "Down" were done the old fashioned way) and then edited slightly in Pro Tools, I must say I was shocked.

it's probably strange for me to say this- but I really like them. They have a sense of humor about themselves, and they make new music. What they do isn't exactly rocket science, but you can really see them growing as people in their music. Their early stuff was typical pop-punk. The middle albums with all the big hits were much more angry and probably near the edge of emo. The new stuff is different again. Plenty of a new-wave and hip-hop influences without sounding stolen. I like the new album a lot.

I totally hate everything about Blink 182 except their music. I'm not really a fan of the dual recto sound, but they just make it sound so huge. They're stuff it catchy, plain and simple.

Last I heard he uses a Marshall and a Dual Rect. at the same time

And the new stuff is anything but plain and simple. Mainly due to Travis on drums branching out a little more.

Blink Rocks, I love them. The new album was kind of a let down for me, they've really changed, but I guess it comes with age.

See, that's exactly why I love the new album They've matured and they're getting more experimental.

btw, check this out:

Pay attention to the drummer especially. Notice he's using his left foot for kick the entire song (or at least, most, didn't really see him use the other foot, I could be wrong ).

I prefer'd their earlier punk pop music dammit was a classic, m+m's etc.
not really keen on the new album at all, although Travis is a badass

Haven't heard the new album, but I've always had a soft spot for Dude Ranch (i played in a few punk bands back in the day, and we were covering Dammit probably a year and a half before it hit the radio, after they did their first Warped Tour- it was kinda surreal when that album began to get big. That and Reel Big Fish's "Turn the Radio Off," another album I was quite into...), and "Cheshire Cat" is raw as hell, but a very emotionally charged punk album...

I haven't heard their new stuff, so I won't pass judgement yet, but any change from their last few discs is probably a good thing...
