Re: Blues recommondations

umm, Robert Johnson anyone? You wouldn't have anyone listed in this thread without him...plus he was part of the famous 3 who all died at 27, him, hendrix and Joplin...kinda weird don't you think?

I was wondering myself how long it would take to mention one of the most legendary players ever.
I would also recomend as a good anthology set the Martin Scorcese Presents the Blues.
It covers a lot of artist from pre- and proto-blues up to modern day blues rock and blues inspired music. It's four or five discs and it's absolutely amazing the body of work it covers.
Also, anything Muddy Waters.

Maybe RJ wasn't mentioned because he asked for "electric only please" in the first post.

Re: Blues recommondations

Definitely check out Eric Gales if you're into the heavy blues rock. You have to listen to the song "Retribution."

Here's a pretty cool of him (third from the left) playing with Paul Rodgers, Satriani (oddly), and Sheldon Reynolds:

The odd thing is that he plays a right-handed guitar strung for a right hander (so the big E string is at the bottom) unlike Hendrix, who strung it for a lefty.

Dont forget Jim Morrison as part of the famous 3. Usually when you refer to people grouped together the thing that groups them happens in a pretty close time, not one person decades before the other 2.

Elmore James, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, SRV, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Jimmie Vaughan, Lightnin Hopkins... That's what comes to mind immediately.

I think Albert King did that as well.
Also another guy worth checking out.

Yeah, that's actually why all the Gales brothers play like that (Eric, Manuel, and and Eugene). Albert King was a really good friend and mentor to them. As a matter of fact, Manuel (who died a few years ago) changed his name to Little Jimmy King for his inspiration from Albert. His stuff is great too.

They call it the Forever 27 Club. They usually do just mention Janis, Jim, and Jimi. But they also throw in Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, and Kurt Cobain, among others that are a little more obscure.

That means I only have a few more years...
