Unhappy

Cant play midnight....


I am trying to play midnight and i have a problem. he 5th and 4th string sound allright but the 2nd and 3rd.. when i play them the sound as if it was two strings playing at the same time and it sounds horrible! Hoe do you guys do it?!

What you're hearing is the string sounding behind your tapping finger (between the nut and the fret you're tapping). You're either hearing it only acoustically, or it's also exciting other strings and it's getting picked up by your pickups.

What you have to do is mute that part of the string with your fretting hand. You can do that or mute all the strings near the nut with a handkerchief, for example. I notice that Satch just mutes with his fretting hand (see the G3: Live in Denver DVD), so that's how I play it, too. By the way, the rendition of Midnight on that DVD is the best one I've heard. It's got some extra cool parts.
