Classical Music anyone?

I've been wondering. I really adore classical music. I listen to beethoven a lot and then there is joshua bell, and the amazing nigel kennedy, maxim vengerov... What do you guys listen to?

or do you dislike classical music?

Re: Classical Music anyone?

You can't go wrong with Bach, Beethoven, Schubert or Vivaldi . When I listen to classical music mostly it's classical guitar music .

Re: Classical Music anyone?

A vote for Mozart here. Symphony #40 and Piano Concerto #21 got me listening to classical. Other faves not mentioned yet are Brahms symphonies 3 & 4 and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.

Re: Classical Music anyone?

I have a piano degree in Classical music.
One of the high points in my life - I did a college concert with a 70 piece orchestra of Copelend pieces and was actually conducted by Aaron Copeland.

Fanfare For The Common Man-
Portrait Of An American President - narration by Charlton Heston

It was a very cool night.
I think about a week later I was at Madison Square Garden ath the ELP show
where they performed their version of Fanfare. Fookin' awsome!

Re: Classical Music anyone?

Which classical composers used compound or odd meters? I'd like to hear some new stuff but I'm not sure what to buy.

I like Mozart and Beet-hoven (Beethoven) quite a bit.

Ideas?

Re: Classical Music anyone?

I still play, but I've got a spine issue and it starts hurting after playing awhile - hence the guitar. I still play all the parts when in the studio.

I suck on guitar, but love it for the challenge, and it doesn't hurt my back.
It's hell getting old.

Re: Classical Music anyone?

When it comes to classical, i mostly prefer solo instruments or small ensembles to the big orchestra stuff.
Chopin
Bach (if you haven't heard John Williams play the Lute Suites, you NEED to!)
Stravinsky
Schoenberg
Zappa

John Williams is the best classical guitar player to ever set foot on this planet, anything he plays carries the most beautiful tone any other nylon guitarplayer has ever achieved.

Speaking of Bach, I believe William's interpretation of his BMW 1006a Prelude is one of the most beautiful recordings of all Baroque music ever. If you get the chance of listening to it you really will be amazed. You really can't go wrong with Bach played by a master instrumentalist. Pianist Glenn Gould made some unique recordings as well as celist Yo Yo Ma. Check them out!
