Coheed and Cambria

I think I posted a thread about this band a while back, but now I'm really getting into them. Great stuff, reminds me of Genesis' "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" days, but with a punk/emo sound to it. Really cool stuff. Here's some links with info about the story:

I just saw them play recently. Great energy and sound live, I really enjoyed it.

I had an older album of theirs, and no one can complain about his voice if they call themselves a Rush or Dream Theater fan I did think it was a girl at first...but the music was great, great power, great drama. I ran into the singer at Guitar Center in NYC and he was a happy, nice guy, which makes all the difference to me. So, TwoHands, good choice!

Agreed, everyone I talk to who likes this band is also a fan of Rush and Dream Theater at least a little bit. I'd say "emo-prog" is as good a term to describe them as I've heard. And his voice is actually really really cool once you get used to it.

I still freak the crap out of my friends when they see the "A Favor House Atlantic" video

I started hearing them on XM radio - and really kind of dig them. Very unique sound - sure, there's the Rush link vocally, but it's really just the sound of the guys voice more than the vocal style. How long have they been around? I got the impression they were a fairly new band.

I think they first got together in 1995 as a 3-piece band named Shabutie, but the 4 member Coheed and Cambria that they are now has been around since about 2000-ish I think.

Right now they have two albums, they just re-released their second because they switched labels (something to Columbia...not bad!). They haven't been around for too long, maybe 3 or 4 years?

My mate loves this band, he goes on about them all the time. I havent even heard one of their tracks yet though. I must do, then I can see what the hell he is banging on about!

Keep in mind it takes a bit to get into them sometimes. Especially the singer's voice. Once you start to understand them though it's really cool stuff. At first I thought it was straight-forward emo-punk type stuff, but as I listened closer and read up on it, they really are more prog-emo sorta.
