coldplay
i know its not what people on this forum seem to tend towards, but does anyone here like coldplay? i am rapidly growing to be a big fan. However, im afraid that jonny bucklands simplistic guitar style might start to have an effect on my playing (as in get less complex rather than more complex)
any comments?

Re: coldplay
They're great songwriters, and i love Jonny Buckland's tones and minimal style of playing. He always seems to choose the right notes for the song, and he complements the piano/keyboard playing nicely, instead of just playing the same notes or chords. Just because he's not playing thousands of notes doesn't mean that what he's doing lacks complexity.

Re: coldplay
The new coldplay album aint that good imo.
The first 2 albums were brilliant, really thought through good songs that do what they should, make u feel good.
Although the new album may be well thought through, its moany to say the least. Im a big fan so its not as if im just saying this from an outsider perspective but all the songs (apart from 'Hardest Part' which rules) are all samey and dull. Chris Martins singing has moved into the high pitched loopy tones that just dont sound as good and well spoken as songs like In my Place, Clocks, Everythings not lost (awesome) and Dont Panic.
So before you judge coldplay as a typical moany indie band, listen to their first 2 albums, because speed on sound/fix you, although are just about listenable, aint brill like the old stuff was.
*Oh and the bonus track is v good aswell

Re: coldplay
the only thing that annoys me about coldplay (and all bands simelar-radiohead, athlete etc..) are the anti-solo solos. four notes and a bend is about all a solo ever is, if there is one at all! whats even worse is that that type of solo fits best (trust me, indie and shred just DONT go..)

Re: coldplay
"High Speed" off Parachutes is one of my favourite Coldplay songs. And not every song needs a guitar solo. If it serves the song, then fine, but if it's just there as a display of chops, then i'll pass.

Re: coldplay
I don't really listen to Coldplay, but I think they're a very good band (despite having no solos). I like their songs 'Clocks'.

Re: coldplay
Worst band ever.
First I though Offspring was the worst ever, then Creed came along.
Now Coldplay has the title, although Jet is a close second.
