Croud Pleaser Tunes.

Hello,

after reaslising that very very very few people in the general public give a fig about 'shred' music. I'd like to use this thread as an oppourtunity to discuss why AND for people to suggest tunes to play live inorder to get a good reaction from the audience.

Okay here are some tunes I can think on

Over the rainbow

More than words

To be with you

Sadly that's all I can think of.

As for the discussion aspect, I guess people dig something easy that they can sing to right? With that in mind, another thing that seems to unify people is 'groove', however I dare say if I played a Messugah tune at university I'd likely to get kicked off my course.

Any ideas/discussion welcomed....

Big Job

I get a great reaction from rondo alla turca it's still a bit shreddy though (what am I talking about, it's shredtastic ).

National anthems, cannon, any really recognizable tunes.

Re: Croud Pleaser Tunes.

What a great idea for a thread. Im really interested in what you guys play outside the US. Ok when you get passed a certian age (for me it was about 30ish) you finally realize that you arent going to be a rockstar. Im not doing original material out anymore and Im not trying to get signed Ive got a wife and kids and a day job so I play in a Cover Band out about 5-7 times a month.
Its a 5 piece which means 2 guitars and as usual Im the shredder and Mike is the Clapton of us two. I hate some of the stuff we play with a passion because I grew up on the Ozzy, Priest, Ratt, Dokken kind of stuff and Mike is always wanting to do the most retarded stuff. Unfortunately everything he chooses to do goes over tremendously with the crowd. So here is a list of top ten songs I hate to play but gets the booty going on the dancefloor.

1. Brown Eyed Girl - Sing along to it and have people from the audience do back up vocals.

2. Stray Cat Strut - Brian Setzer I hate you for this song

3. Hands To Yourself - I live in the South, enough said

4. Hard to Handle - Black Crowes just have that rump shakin thing

5-6. Play that funky music into Brick House - THis goes on for about 20 minutes just to wear your ass out on the dance floor

7. Anything by Tom Petty - Does he use like 12 guitars in a song?

8. Sweet Home Alabama - See #3 for explanation

9. Shook Me All night long into Hells Bells into Have a drink on me - Ok I love to play this because..........well its Angus.

10. Yellow Ledbetter - Because everyone actually thinks its Hendrix

The number one song that seems to go over at all the bars I go to is:

Sweet Child of Mine - as soon as that intro kicks in the dancefloor is swarmed.

If you've got a decent singer I've found that anything by Zeppelin goes over really well. It doesn't hurt if you resemble Robert Plant either.

At least so I've been told..

Re: Croud Pleaser Tunes.

Id second brown eyed girl adn hard to hanlde (though ours is a bit more otis redding than black crowes) ... these have worked well for me in bands before..

we currently do a Chic medley that goes "Good times" into "We are family" into "Le Freak" that usually gets everyone dancing.

"Kiss" by prince always goes well..

as does "I believe in a thing called love" by the darkness

"Virtual insanity" by jamiroquai is great as you can be very flexable with it.

We also play "take your momma out" and "music is the victim" by The scissor sisters which always get great reactions too.

we also do play that funky music but dropped brick house... for obvious reasons

Any Kiss songs, but specifically Rock and ROll all night.
We used to do a Rush Medley that got a GREAT resoponse.
2112 into Cygnus X1 into LaVilla into Spirit of Radio.

Eve 6 got people going too.
Nena 99 Luft Balloons
It really depends on your crowd too.
You may have to throw out a Brittany Spears tune, or a Britanny Fox tune, just depends.

Re: Croud Pleaser Tunes.

How very very intersting! I figure that people will like ALL of the tunes that you mention....but here is a little head scratcher....

Is it possible to do tunes, such as Here I go again, using just an acoustic? I mean I can get the tab and learn it 100% and it would be cool. However, would it not loose alot of its 'power' doin it on an acoustic with just a singer? Or is it all about the arangment and doing it right?

I'm prity sure if you bust out Here I go again people would freak out!

Keep the ideas coming....

A lot of great selections. In addition to the southern rock stuff and Sweet Child O' Mine, Ozzy's Crazy Train always got a great reaction.
