Current Yngwie tour

Has anyone met him? I was wondering if it was worth my while to wait to get an autograph. I remember seeing a post on a board somewhere (Maybe this one) awhile back that he wasn't very cool. Anyways he's coming here soon and didn't want to wait around for nothing! I could go home after the show and jam instead of waiting and waiting.....LOL
thanks

Don't even bother. I went to see him a few months ago...

There was no opener, just him, and he came on like an hour late...

Also, there were maybe 250-300 people there, max (very important).

The only meet and greet anyone got was when he ran out of the dressing room playing 3 string appregios and making the O-face. A few hand slaps.

After that, he went to his bus and ate corn nuts and watched his son play PS2 games, with his father (or father-in-law, or something) sitting next to him nodding out reading some book.

I got more time in with his wife, because she was the one actually working the merchandise booth. But she's a pretty hot-head, too. They must have met on shorttempers.com...

This topic is floating around here somewhere. Someone brought him an Ibanez to autograph. He did, then wrote, "Play Fender!" on it.

I'd sign his strat and write "**** Fender" on it.

Cool, you saved me some time! Were they selling his guitar picks at the merch booth? Thats all I really wanted anyways.

Your story reminds me of when I met EVH. A guy walked up and asked him to sign his Music Man and Ed told him to "get ****ed" I was really surprised. Ed was a total @ss. There are some really nice guys out there but some really bad ones too!

Re: Current Yngwie tour

No, just cd's and shirts, but he was tossing plenty of picks. He must go through 100 a night.

He might be a little different at a bigger show, but it's probably not even worth it. One guy outside of the bus said that his father used to work on Yngwie's guitars in Miami and gave the card to a bouncer. The bouncer came back about 30 seconds later and said "Yngwie's not interested in talking to anyone right now" and handed the card back.

Re: Current Yngwie tour

Well i saw Yngwie in Manchester, we got there really early (about 11 a.m) and just hung out until the tour busses arrived about 1.00 p.m. There must have been about 10 people waiting about for Yngwie but there was no sign of him, just the road crew caring about all his equiptment. Then some of the band came out, Doogie White came out and was soooo freindly. He was such a gentleman and chatted to everyone. Then there was 'news' that someone had spotted Yngwie, turned around and there he was, for 1 split second running into the venue door (bus was parked with door directly facing venue back door).

Then while they were carting the marshalls in, I walked straight in the back exit with 2 other malm fans and got right on stage with not 1 person stopping us, man it was such a thrill. Thomas Nordegg was setting up Yngwie's guitarist and had a brief chat to him. I got to play on one of Yngwie's strats, just picked it off the rack and played a few arpeggios (although saying that no-one was looking, if Yngwie saw me I would have been shot dead!), spoke to his drummer to while on stage who is a really cool guy, very humble. Walked up to Yngwie microphone for a quick '1 2' which reverberated around the whole venue, still at this point not 1 person said anything. I think people must have thought we were V.I.P's or something I also nabbed a few of Yngwie's picks from his mic stand Just as we were exploring his wall of marshalls, his tour manager came and swat us out. He was furious, shouting at all the crew We got outside and April Malmsteen was outside talking to some fans, i managed to blag some more picks off her. Anyway for the show ... it was meant to start at 7:30 but started at 9:00. They left us out freezing our asses off in the rain for 1:30 hours with NO shelter!!!

Then when we got in, a support band came up, don't know there names but they reminded me of a mix of rage against machine with abit of malmsteen thrown in for good measure. (original support act was meant to be MSG but Schenker pulled out last minute because he was advertised as a support act, he originally thought it was a co-headline show - shame really, would have been great to see him). After the support band, we had to wait another whole 1 hour for Yngwie to come on. We were treated to the WHOLE version of Vivaldi's 4 seasons, which was pretty cool but got tiresome after a while as people were starting to get disgruntled after the long wait. but let me tell you something.. it was worth every minute of the wait!!! Yngwie was absolutley AMAZING Although saying this, towards the end for the encore of blackstar, his complete rig cut out. Yngwie looked soooooo pissed off, you could see him in the side wings shouting his ass off at his guitar tech, but they couldn't seem to fix it so Yngwie came back on and ended the show, and walked off lookin MAD.

After the gig, the other band members came out and were chatting to the fans, Yngwie was in his dressing room apparently raging from what had happened. But apparentley he got his wife to take 2 kids out from the crowd outside and brought them back to his dressing room. He gave them loads of signed **** and some of his jewelery (yes, that's right, his bling!!)

I think with Yngwie from what i've heard, he's very hit and miss when it comes to fan greetings. I doubt he's an arsehole all the time, just most of it .. and we all love him for it

Re: Current Yngwie tour

It is a goal of mine to have my guitar playing personally insulted by Yngwie. So many people get ticked off by him and his comments, but I just can't take it that seriously and am looking forward to the day my tunes get ripped by him. The only way may be to have him come do a clinic at my place, but I'm afraid that may be a bit too pricey, so I'll have to come up with some other ideas. C'mon, you haven't arrived until you've been insulted by the Yngster!! Go viking man!

Re: Current Yngwie tour

I remember seeing Malmsteen years ago on the Eclipse tour - he threw a fit at his keyboard player when he tried to accompany him on one of his extended solos

I think Yngwie's appeal is as much waiting to see what rock star tantrum he's going to throw as much as his playing He takes himself far too seriously
