Currently i can't stop listening to...
Rust in Piece by
Megadeth
(1990). I've always known how great of an album this is. But I just have this craving for Rust in Piece lately. Probably listened to it 10 times over the last few days. My iPod probably hates me right now.
Maybe i'm appreciating Dave Mustaine for the mad artist that he is. I think i'm glad that Mustaine wasn't in Metallica any longer, would we have heard songs like Hanger 18, Lucretia, Tornado of Souls or Holy Wars? Probably not.
Then theirs Marty Friedman...someone I think guitarists from any genre can appreciate and influence.
I probably shouldn't start my car for awhile after this, but I think I like Rust In Piece better than my favorite Metallica album (...and Justice For All).

Re: Currently i can't stop listening to...
Such a great album. When I first heard it, it seemed so exotic and dark. It was one of the first metal albums i got into, and it'll always be one of my favourites.
This is a great idea for a thread in general though: "Currently I can't stop listening to..."
So I'm gonna run with it!
Currently I can't stop listening to Mike Keneally's 'Guitar Therapy Live.' Every time I put it on, I hear something I didn't notice before, and Mike's solos are so exhillirating. You can never predict where he's going to go, and sometimes it sounds like he's on the verge of going too deep and dropping the guitar on the floor because he's playing so intensely, but he holds it together and never lets up. Last night I was listening to it in the car, and the first chord stab after the solo in 'Uglytown' was so powerful it almost made me have a fit.

Remove 'Dawn Patrol' and I think whats left is almost perfect...
and for me, Rust in Peace easily blows away anything that Metallica have done.

I agree completely, as long as you don't count anything they made between 1982 and 2008.
Just kidding, it is a great album.

I love Megadeth, 99% due to Marty Friedman. Guy had some of the best phrasing metal guitar playing's ever seen IMO. Lucretia, Angry Again, Hangar 18, Tornado of Souls...all awesome.
Not a big fan of Mustaine though, especially after the absolute gangrape he performed on the Cemetery Gates solo when Gigantour did a Dimebag tribute. Anyone who doesn't want to hate Mustaine, don't click the following:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P8Mcd6b7TA
Why they gave the easy part of the solo to John Petrucci and then the hardest part to Mustaine is beyond me. I guess cuz Gigantour was his thing and he wanted to do it...

I don't know my friend, maybe i'm overly harsh but I wouldn't say a little haha. My ears were greatly offended from like 4 seconds into his solo. I dont think he was even in key half the time. Not saying I could do any better, but it is a tribute in Dimebag's memory...could've practiced a little bit or something.

Going back to topic, I think Rust In Peace was an incredible album. IMO, Hangar 18 was and still is better than any song Metallica has ever put out. I really wish Dave hadn't done a remaster of the album though. I think the original pressing sounded better than the remastered one.
Jimmy
P.S.: If anyone has an extra Rust In Peace cd (pre-remaster date), please let me know, I'd like to buy it.

Hmm...i'm gonna have to get ahold of that one. I've heard Mike's stuff before but never an entire album. I'm really into unpredictable music.

I'll bet I have purchased RIP 6 or 7 times.
Everytime one of my nephews come over they listen to my CD's and they freak out on RIP.

Megadeth over Metallica, anyday. And yeah, RIP is great. I also find myself listening to Risk and Symphony pretty often. A little more commercial sounding, but still great tunes.
