Has anyone else got this impossibly amazing new album by Hevy Devy? I can't stop listening to it. Seriously. Like, I feel like I need to listen to it twice a day. I'm a grown man, fer crying out loud, I should be able to show restraint!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, if you haven't heard it, imagine some of the more commercial moments of Ocean Machine, Physicist and Accelerated Evolution, but with more groove and very flashy production.

Oh and if you've never listened to Devin apart from the album he did with Steve Vai, whoooooooooa boy you have a lot of catching up to do. Here's a post by Devin himself on metalsucks.com where Devin personally picks out a bunch of YouTube videos to give a bit of an overview of his work. If you don't like one, give another a try because he's done a lot of very different stuff and some of it is quite shreddy, some is rather proggy, some is all-out metal, and he's even done some ambient new age instrumental albums.

Yep, I too have been listening to it quite a bit. The songs have such an amazing groove! Devin is really talented -- I've become a huge fan.

I ordered mine yesterday-thanks for the heads-up.
I am slightly concerned that I'll have to fork out again when the boxed set comes out with all 4 albums.

I deliberately waited before getting the Chickenfoot record. Now it's being rereleased with a bonus dvd-I predicted it would.

I got Addicted on iTunes yesterday, too impatient to order the CD (did the same with Ki). Both are great discs...

Damn you and your logic! I wish I had thought of itunes. I just bought Ki. Anyone listen to Ocean machine? Is that one any good?

Ocean Machine is probably still my favourite. If you liked his vocal style on Sex & Religion, it's more of that, but with more confidence since he's singing his own melodies. Musically there's lots of heavy riffing, big vocals, atmospherics. It had a huge impact on me when it came out.

Thanks man. I will itune it now. Thanks for turning me on to Devin's music (your blog and post here). Of all the newmetal out there I always respected Strapping Young Lad cause he would actually sing and not just growl. Glad to see he has a less hard core side too.

I have been listening to some of his stuff on youtube the last few days - Addicted and Ki sound awesome. Probably get them on itunes and then buy the box set.

Been watching his recent D'Addario interviews as well - hilarious stuff.

Devin Townsend is by far the greatest influence to my own playing and singing. He's one of the greatest musicians of our time if you ask me. It's incredible how diverse that guy is, as he goes from screaming anger of strapping young lad to the popmelodies of addicted, visiting ambient goodness of "death of music" and straight to the funky stuff in "coast". Oh, I'm such a fanboy
