Shoot, I wasn't even playing air guitar yet when I was 18. His solo is obviously influenced by Randy Rhoads.

He's using to try to play faster than he can pick obviously. He's not using it for a stylistic legato application.

yeah i agree... he cant alternate pick at all.. although dime is one of my favorite guitarists, im not that impressed.. im 17 and i could do much better then that.. and thats not saying much.. and his pitch is awfull.. i guess he just had to mature as a musician for that part..

Keep in mind that it's 1984 when he's playing like that. Before Yngwie or Paul Gilbert or any of the real fast pickers hit the scene.
