Dokken

Granted, they probably have the cheesiest of cheesy 80s videos, but they sure can crank out some killer riffs, and Lynch's playing is superb. I've only got the "Best Of" album now. Any recommendations for what else I should get?

I'm enjoying "Into the Fire", "The Hunter", and "It's Not Love."

Re: Dokken

I used to love 'em when I was younger, but I can't quite stomach them now. Lynch was great, though. I like the Tooth & Nail album best, plus the riff from The Hunter.

Re: Dokken

"Tooth And Nail" is the album i would suggest starting with. It pretty much kicks ass from start to finish.

"Back For The Attack" has some great playing from Lynch, and his signature tune "Mr Scary".

"Under Lock And Key" has some cool tunes and soloing, but is too polished sounding for me.

"Dysfunctional" was their "reunion" album and has a more heavy modern feel to it. Definitely worth getting eventually.

"Shadowlife" is unique- it has a totally different vibe than any of their other albums, I personally love it, but many fans hate it.

Lastly, don't forget about the "Japn Live '95" dvd. A must have!!!!!

Hope this helps.
peace

Re: Dokken

"Back For The Attack" is the single most guitar shredding Album Dokken ever released.

Killer guitar tones aswell.
Lynch is a Great Studio technician and horrible live player

Re: Dokken

IMO the best Dokken album is Beast from the east!!! But I love everything they put out in the 80'S just the same.

Re: Dokken

I second Beast From The East. It's a live album, but the production of it, the quality of the recording was just plain great and George's solo just before going into Mr. Scary is pretty damn scary in it's own right.

Aside from this album, I have them all and can honestly say there's not a bad album in their collection that has George playing. I didn't buy anything from Dokken after George left. I heard Dokken live in Charlotte when they were touring around with Poison. I can't remember who was playing for them. I don't think it was Reb Beach....maybe Kotzen (?). I wasn't impressed with their new music. Dokken just isn't Dokken without Lynch in there.

If you like the Dokken sound and songs then you need to also check out Lynch Mob and Lynch & Pilson. Jeff Pilson is the bassist and their album together sounded awesome. Jeff did backup vocals in Dokken and his voice characteristics are very close to Dons. So when you here Jeff singing you can easily trick yourself into thinking it's Dokken back together again.

I know what you mean Dee. I thought they were great I was younger. I think their music has dated quite a lot. When a Dokken song comes on my iTunes random play I tend to hit next track. Beast from the east is still an awesome album though

Re: Dokken

First concert I paid to see, Dokken was the opening act for Loverboy. I left shortly into Loverboys set after seeing Dokken.

+1 for

Tooth and Nail

Under Lock and Key

Back for the Attack

Lynch has a good sense of humor and seems very down to Earth nowadays.

Re: Dokken

I opened for Dokken during there "Dysfunctional" tour, here in St. Louis MO.
It was Georges "Mesa" phase. God what horrible tone. He also just came off the rhoids (Truly Scary). All great Guys except Don Dokken who I wouldn't bother to spit on.
