Essential Paul Gilbert?
Before I see Paul in March, I want to become more acquainted with his music. I have "Get Out of My Yard", "Alligator Farm", and Racer X's "Street Lethal". What is one other CD I should buy by him? "Flying Dog"?

How about some MR Big although I highly doubt they'll play any of that!!!

Get beyond the 80s cheese, and there's some very good playing on the Mr. Big stuff (not to mention teaming up with Sheehan don't hurt).

I second the Mr Big suggestions. They're a great band and Paul's music is incredible nonetheless.

Re: Essential Paul Gilbert?
Mr. Big were complete cheese. I used to like them, then again, I didn't know better back then. I also saw them live in 1991 or something. Paul was great. The singer made cheese on toast live on stage.

I guess I missed the boat on the whole Mr Big thing, but Paul's solo stuff is great imo.

Re: Essential Paul Gilbert?
Which of Paul's solo stuff is fully instrumental? I never bothered buying anything except GOOMY cause I'm not into his vocals and I don't know which are instrumental.

Re: Essential Paul Gilbert?
I think "Acoustic Samurai" is a pretty amazing album.
Although PG doesn't write #1 hit singles (thank god) his songwriting is excellent and his playing speaks for itself.
Check out the Spaceship 1 CD or DVD - fantastic stuff

Re: Essential Paul Gilbert?
If there is 1 essential CD, I would have said Mr. Big - Lean Into It.
That's just a classic CD right there, just an awesome record.
