Europe custom charges and taxes

Hi guys,
i need some info for the taxes and custom charges in Europe. I'm shipping something to Franch and it cost about 500US, how much does the receiving party have to pay for tax and custom?

And if i indicate it as a gift, does the receiving party still have to pay tax/custom?

It's slightly different in different EU countries. I live in Sweden and here the customs fee is 4% and on top of that we have to pay 25% sales tax on the cost of the item (including shipping and the customs fee).
I'm pretty sure it's slightly less in France , I think it's about 20% in total there.
