EVH CDs?

Heard a bit of EVH's music recently, due to all the threads about him (there must be 3 or 4 active threads about EVH in various different boards...so here's another one) and I was considering picking up one of his CDs to see what everyone raves about. I've found a CD called 'Best of Both Worlds', £7 with 36 songs on it...planning on ordering a whole stack of CDs tomorrow (Ayreon, Porcupine Tree, something else I've forgotten) so I could easily add this to the basket if the songs are any good, plus it's cheap as hell for so many songs.

Any opinions, EVH fans?

Thanks
tTz

Re: EVH CDs?

I really can't think of a "bad" VH cd/album. Heck, they are all good!

Re: EVH CDs?

Really? After all the stick EVH has been getting on this forum lately, I assumed that there were a fair few albums to be avoided.

Buy them all! If only a few get Van Halen, 5150, F.U.C.K. and/or Van Halen II.

Re: EVH CDs?

What about this 'Best of Both Worlds' one, any decent songs on that?

Here's a link, in case you don't know it - http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/1754...s/Product.html

I wouldn't have a clue which ones are good songs and which ones aren't, tbh.

Re: EVH CDs?

There are alot of good songs on that one and a lot of crap songs on that one.

A wide range of guitar tones are represented here (not to mention a few singers!).

It's probably a good start on your VH journey. Once you listen to it a few times, you'll get a feeling for which songs (and singers) you like best. Then you can purchase the album that those songs exist on.

For me...early VH is where it's at.
VH-I, VH-II, WACF, FW......are my favorites.

Everyone will have their favorites but these are the albums that Eddie blazed onto the scene with and took guitar playing to a new level. Raw, brown, crunchy, chewy tones with tasty melodies and crazy solos. Very fresh sound for the era.

I envy you. Getting to hear EVH for the first time.
Enjoy the ride!!

Heh, I recall someone saying something similar to me when I started getting into Vai and Satriani.

Re: EVH CDs?

To start Best of both Worlds is good as a Best of album. Then when you're hooked, start at VH 1 and buy every album except vh3.

Its only over the past couple of years Ed has lost his way. Up to F.U.C.K everything he's done is gold.

No doubt about it. If you're into Vai and if you like his 2 albums with DLR get 1984 and see what they were trying to follow.

As much as I like Steve listening to Eat'em and Smile after 1984 is like listening to a bad VH wanabe band.

Re: EVH CDs?

Agreed. That double CD best of album is good. I also like the newer albums like Balance and VH3. No reason not to like them for me.

Re: EVH CDs?

I picked it up this morning, only 10 tracks through the first disc so far, sounds pretty good. I could hear the similarities between a lot of the songs on it and the Vai/DLR songs too, that surprised me.

Re: EVH CDs?

I'm really liking 'Learning to See' at the moment - seems that's a newish one, released in 2004. Has a nice 'epic' feel to the chorus, imo. Still haven't finished listening to Disc 2, lol, been going over and over the good songs from the first disc.
