Extreme/Nuno fans...VH1 tonight! 1/27/04

I know it's late notice...at 10 NY time, VH1 is doing that reunite the band special with Extreme. I'm taping it - thought others here might be interested.

yeah, great show.

Recap:
After watching for a full half hour, it came time to recruit Nuno, and he refused to do the re-union. They had all the guys willing to do it, and nuno, the last of the bunch, wouldn't give vh1 the time of day, citing it as a step back.

Damn. Although I guess he has his reasons.

So, the half hour re-union show is a dud. It was nice to get some insight on what the boys are doing though.

Gary is...building a house in Boston.
Paul is in management
Pat is a farmer (seriously!)
And Nuno, well, they didn't really talk to him about anything..he actually barely appeared on camera.

So last January in LA's Viper Room Gary did an impromptu performance of More Than Words... Nuno was there but didn't want to play..I think Pat Badger and Mike Mangini were there too.. Paul Gilbert was there and played along with Gary...
Last August at Guitar Wars in Hard Rock Cafe Tokyo, Gary, Nuno, and PG performed More Than Words...
Last November Gary performed a couple of songs with Nuno's Population-1.. including Get The Funk Out..
So I had high expectation for this Bands Reunited thing... and then Nuno completely shot down VH1..
I wonder how much the VH1/MTV/TV factor played a role here ?

A strange coincidence.. one of tonight's Jay Leno's guests mentioned Extreme and More Than Words..

Nuno seems like he just wants to move on....I would to. They probably would make them play More than Words anyway.

nah, the entire show was about how more than words only utilzed a fraction of the band, and it was the focus of every interview with band members. they also kept talking about how 'more than words' didn't really represent what they band was about and that it mislead people about the nature of extreme.

Unless they planned on bringing the entire band back and having half of them sit in a corner, they would've done another song.

They should have focused on "III Sides....."; IMHO that was Extreme at their best.

I can see why Nuno didn't want to... As another poster already said, "More than Words" really misrepresented the band, and at a certain moment it seemed as if only teen girls liked Extreme, and all the rest (apart from us, guitarists) looked at them as another hair band from times bygone.

Besides, he's got a career of his own now - and if you're that big in Japan, you could care less about the VH1 public. Ask Marty Friedman.

Nuno is in LA and he's been without a US record deal for around 4 years now. Population One (nuno's new band) plays every few weeks around there.

To say that he doesn't care about success in the US would be a pretty big leap. IMO Nuno wants success, but he wants it to come from recognition of his new band, not as 'the guy that wears black nail polish in that one band that played that acoustic song.' Check out the new Tantric single, "Hey Now." Which Mr. Bettencourt co-wrote. Keep your fingers crossed for a US deal for Nuno. Population One is a brilliant CD.

Pat isn't exactly just farming now by the way. He is in Tribe of Judah with Gary and I believe he also does some session work at one of the studios around town.

Extreme re-united I would have loved to see them
play together again. How about a White Lion show.

Anyway-Extreme could get EVH to play guitar and hit
the road

I may be wrong, but I think that's what NUNO's fans really want: a re-union with extreme. They were pure magic together. I could just see the internet buzzing with the announcement of such a union.

It seems to me like the other guys from the band actually want that to happen as well, especially Gary and Pat. Gary seemed particularly hestitant to admit that, but I think he does. It's like those guys were meant to be, and there's something standing in the way of that.

I love Nuno's other ventures very much. Anything he does is superb. but to me, those other 3 guys bring out a special kind of magic in him.
