Fans of Megadeth AND Metallica - any hope of reconciliation?
I was watching the Metallica documentary (Some Kind of Monster) the other day and had a thought about this whole resentment between
Dave Mustaine
and Lars & James. Surely there's a way to put the differences and the past behind them.
I had an idea.
Wouldn't it be cool if Metallica did a Megadeth cover on a future album. Assuming Lars & James would be man enough to ask and Dave would allow, I don't see why that wouldn't be a great way for Metallica to show their respect for Dave.
What do you guys think?

I did not realize Metallica was still around.

They could do a song off of Rust in Peace
Would be interesting seeing Kirk trying to nail one of Marty's solos

Yeah it'd be cool - but I wouldn't want to listen to Metallica butcher one of Megadeths songs. It would probably be the Megadeth version - but slowed down,
scooped mids
and Kirk going crazy with his crybaby. Thanks but no thanks.

Can't they just forget about this? It was years ago, and Dave has kicked Metallica in the teeth with Megadeth, if he wanted payback he got it with them; Megadeth are much better IMO.

Re: Fans of Megadeth AND Metallica - any hope of reconciliation?
Megadeth was on live a couple of weeks ago on XM 41 The Boneyard. They talked about that and Dave said he used to be really angry. That was what fueled some of the songs in the past, but it's all past now. He doesn't care about all that. I think he's put it behind him. He sees Megadeth as his baby, and it is...it's his. It's his band and it's quite successful.
I don't think Kirk could handle some of Marty's solos at speed. Slowed down, yea, but it would be butchered with the Crybaby until I'm crying. I think it would be pretty cool for Megadeth to cover a Metellica song though. I think it would be quite funny actually. And Glen would rip Kirks little solos apart.
I used to be a big Metallica fan, but I think they just plain suck these days. They've lost that edge I think. The Black album was probably the last one that I liked. And Justice just plain ruled as far as I'm concerned, and the ones before that were brilliance.

Metallica couldn't nail a Megadeth song from Rust in Peace, even if they tried.

Kirk used to be a lot better, some solos on Justice were great..
you have to hand it to him though, changing instruments to specialize in the solo wah is no mean feat and he's very dedicated to it. he even uses a guitar sometimes as an effect on his wah sound.

Re: Fans of Megadeth AND Metallica - any hope of reconciliation?
They cover Megadeth tunes any time they play Four Horsemen. Also Call of Kthulu. They used a lot of Daves material after ousting him. Which probably widened the rift in the first place. Frankly I think that Metallica has passed it's prime where Megadeth, although undergoing a complete overhaul in personell still totally rocks!! I really love the new album. Still sounds like Megadeth and not some crappy garage band recording their demo on a $12 cassette recorder.

Mr. Inzane,
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Say what?? Rambling incoherent response? Response to what? All I did was post the thread starter...
And for the record, I agree with most of what the above people have said.
The one thing I didn't know is that Mustaine has since moved on (as Courtney mentioned). From his interview in the Metallica documentary (which is a few years old now, I realize), he obviously hadn't yet back then. He sounded like he had an inferiority complex, jealousy, and a lack of confidence when comparing himself to Metallica's "success".

This thread reminds me of a book I read called The Puppy Who Lost His Way....
o'doyle rules!
a couple years ago, i was able to recite every single word in that movie in order from start to finish. How sad is that?
