Exclamation

fast

Who is the fastest Shredder/ guitarist ever?

Purly based on speed ( i know best isn't fastest but this thread concerns speed), Notes per second, sweep picking, strumming, picking....etc

Re: fast

Probably Rusty Cooley, if we discount Paul Gilbert and his drill.

+1 to Rusty Cooley. He's definitely the fastest I've ever heard.

Re: fast

Having videos of Malmsteen, Cooley, Gilbert, Michael Batio, and Chris Impellitteri, it's Impellitteri hands down.

Re: fast

Isn't Batio supposed to be the fastest? Personally I think Shawn Lane is one of the fastest if not the maybe Chris .

Re: fast

Jeremy Barnes? I heard about him and checked out some of his tunes, he's fast, someone said 80nps (????-must be hyperbolic). Francesco Farreri is fast, but like a boring Rusty Cooley.

I know nothing, really...

Re: fast

I thought Michael Batio was the fastest?

Speaking of PG and the drill, does anybody know where you can find a picture of fitting a drill bit with picks?

Re: fast

I may be completely off here, but didn't Vai hold the record for a while with 28 notes/second?

Re: fast

Michael Batio was "named" fastest by some magazine but that's hardly scientific. But he is fast - admittedly though, I've only seen his Speed Lives video so that may not be his best example - and it's slow compared to Impellitteri.

There are a few folks on chopsfromhell website that are incredibly fast. (including Cooley) Cooley is amazing because of the wide finger stretches he does while he burns; definitely a technique you almost never see given that tons of players rarely use their pinky and he's stretching across 7 or 8 frets sometimes.

Don't think so, Vai pulls off 64th note tapping in The Riddle which is at 78bpm, somewhere around the 20-21nps mark, I think that's his fastest.
