Favorite Sub Genre of Metal

Just wondering what kind of metal you enjoy most. I'm not trying to start an argument about which is better, just what you think.

I like thrash metal the best.

Re: Favorite Sub Genre of Metal

The number of sub genres for metal (or any music) is becoming ridiculous. Can't we just call it metal and move on?

"Uh, dude that's not post grindcore moshpit math metal, it's actually indie folk black power metal. Duh."

Re: Favorite Sub Genre of Metal

This is difficult. I love thrash because of early Metallica (that's my favorite music) but I also like prog and power metal like Angra. And I like some new death metal like Arch Enemy.

But thrash I think.

Whenever I say that people always yell at me. As far as I'm concernced metal is a sub genre of Rock and I'm happy to just leave it at that.

But Power for me. 110% power metal. The fact that hair metal has the most votes makes me a sad panda.

Re: Favorite Sub Genre of Metal

I agree with those who say that the number of sub genres is becoming rediculous. Because it's just silly.

I've had people on this forum tell me a band wasn't in the genre I was talking about becuase the minutest detail. It's annoying.

Re: Favorite Sub Genre of Metal

Thats a tough one but I catch myself listening to Dream Theater and Fates Warning more than anything else so I'm going to have to go with prog.

Re: Favorite Sub Genre of Metal

Ok.

Cat, pigeons. Pigeons, cat.

What's the difference between groove metal and power metal and so on. would someone like to point me in the direction of a reputable music industry definition of each?

Or is it journos being journos most of the time (no offence Petie - I'm hoping you'll give me a heads up on this!!!)
