Freddy Fender Passed Away

Not sure how many will remember him, but Freddy Fender passed way yesterday at the age of 69. He had been battling cancer that was diagnosed early this year. He passed away at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was known as the "bebop kid" and did a blend of tex-mex country. He had several hits back in the mid 70's with songs like "Wasted days and Wasted nights" and "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" both staples of his live performances as well as #1 hits. While no relation to Leo Fender he was known to use their guitars. Freddy Fender; 1937-2006 RIP.

Re: Freddy Fender Passed Away

It's sad..... not one post, and a scant 33 views. I understand he wasn't a guitar great and most may not know who he was, but to not at the least show respect and acknowledge a fellow musician passing says a lot about our little society here.

Re: Freddy Fender Passed Away

Man that really sucks =( Freddy actually played a few concerts in the small town I live in a few years back. It was really cool to see him live.

I am sorry to hear about his passing on =( He was truly a great musician.

Re: Freddy Fender Passed Away

The guy won three Grammy's...... heck, most musicians would be happy just being nominated. He was nominated five times. His funeral will be tomorrow.

Re: Freddy Fender Passed Away

I tell you what his funeral was huge! I live in Harlingen, Texas so pull out your maps if you do not know where that it is just look south of Corpus Christi. San Benito Texas is 5 miles from where I live and they had a broadcast of his funeral and it was a somber moment. They have a Water Tower with his face painted on it and that is huge for that town.
