Agreed, especially since it's not even close to being a stretch of DVD's capabilities to do so.
I think this thread is referring to the Audio CD - not the DVD.

[snip tracklist]

You're reading that right: only 3 Vai tunes and NO complete show. I'm disappointed, to say the least. My guess is that Epic was firm on this being a single-disc release, despite what Joe's intentions may have been. I thought a double-disc set would have been the smartest way to go, but I'm obviously not calling the shots.
Unfortunately Steve is not involved in the production of the CD or DVD beyond mixing his own audio. I'm not sure who's decision it was to cut tracks or present a selection of tracks only. The issue of there only being 3 songs of Steve's possibly comes down to time allotment on the CD. If I remember correctly, Whispering a Prayer runs at about 7 minutes.

Peace,

Mikey

Hell, I'll be buying it... I couldn't make the tour this year, but even if I had, I think it'll be a pretty cool disc.

I'm just pissed they didn't do a G3 from the Petrucci tour. his set just killed.

It also features a selection of tracks - not the full set. (Unless it's changed in the last week) the DVD features tracks not on the CD.

That said, I can only speak for Steve's stuff..

I'll post a tracklisting as soon as I get one... in fact, I'll go ask for it now.

thanks a lot. I can't believe they would cut it for the DVD though. The whole concert would easily fit on one disc.

Maybe they didn't film enough nights to get good takes of everything.

However it is pretty disappointing. It seems like more of a memento for those who went to the show, rather than a document for those who couldn't. Damn thousands of miles of ocean.

The only way to do it right would be a double CD. This sucks. Partially depending on the reviews, I may still get it though, I wish I could have seen it live.........

Yeah, 3 Vai songs kinda sucks, but you've got to admit, you absolutely cannot go wrong with Whispering a Prayer. A great song. But the Reaper? Gimme a Break. Add more Vai tunes and take away some Yngwie. If you ask me, one Yngwie song should be enough. It all sounds the same to me

Well, like Mike said, they may be alotted by time. Steve may have been given a certain time block for his songs, and Yngwie a time block for his. It's not really fair to cut out one performer in favor of another.

I'm not sure that there's an acceptable answer for the way this G3 cd looks.

If the record company insists on not selling a double cd package, then sell each artists set as an individual cd. You'd think the folks in charge had learned their lesson with the last G3 disc.

Full setlist is the only way to go. RUSH can do it, why can't the people handling Vai Satch and Yngwie concerts? This is not rocket science.

perhaps whoever produced the CD and/or the DVD was not given enough of a budget to do the whole lot sufficiently?

who knows...

You'll all still buy it anyway...

Yeah, a great song, and when the Live at the Astoria CD comes out in a few months, there'll be three official live recordings of it on compact disc, but thus far none of Tender Surrender, Sisters or Touching Tongues. Hmm.

Excellent idea!

Again, I agree whole heartedly. I heard Rush on Rockline after the DVD came out. Boy, I was impressed that they really wanted to get as much music on that thing as they could. (I think it was) Lifeson who was seriously disappointed that they couldn't/didn't put MORE songs on there. They vary their setlist from night to night. So, I guess there are some songs they would've liked to put on the DVD that they didn't perform the night it was recorded. If they had it to do over again, they'd have added those songs.

I guess I don't understand why Vai and Satch don't have more control over what gets released.

A couple of other links to HMV Japan. Full tracklistings for CD and DVD are included. Looks like the CD is a 2-CD set (standard sets on Disc 1, Jam tunes on Disc 2. DVD is a single disc set. Same number of tracks, but different song selections from each individual artist:

http://www.hmv.co.jp/Product/Detail....en&sku=1894721
(English vers.)

Despite my disappointment with not having a full setlist, I'm stil purchasing both of them. I guess if you're not N'Sync or Britney, you aren't given significant budgets to work with. Aside from us diehard fans of guitar music, there simply isn't enough focus on this genre to allow triple CD-sets and double-DVD sets with complete tracks. Too bad Joe didn't arrange to have Favored Nations put this out. I could see them releasing separate discs for each artist's set, or a complete package where you could buy discs from all three artists, etc. Oh well, dream all you want, but it's already a done deal. Sorry for my little rant...
