why is this suddenly a "budget issue". Gimme a break these albums cost most $$$ in marketing not production. (one disc vs two is neglible).

more than likely the bean counters at Epic just feel a single disc is more "profitable" to them (will sell more at a lower cost to consumer and more stores will inventory it) ... glen

I'm just glad there'll be a new recording of "Midnight" -not listed here, but listed on the HMV page. I absolutely loved the changes he made to it when I caught the Satch/DT/King's X show... brilliant.

That was the point I was trying to make. I agree that the cost to manufacture the product is very small. Epic doesn't want to spend the money on a huge campaign to move a 3-disc set of artists that aren't being played on the radio every hour or have a new video to keep them on the minds/ears of listeners. I'm just hoping the cameramen who shot the Denver show knew what they were doing .

No doubt. Given they have a limited marketing budget that sort of nullifies "cost" being an issue regarding 1-2-3 disc set. Obviously this isn't going to sell like zeppelin's "how the west was won" set, but at some point you can't let the suits at Epics water down EVERYTHING, especially the niche stuff.

These guys signed contracts and the labels often have final say, but it would be nice to get more info (from satch i assume) on why exactly this is.

I say we all boycot it. Everyone simply not buy it. Everyone email vai and vai.com saying their not buying it because of this reason, and have people going to all the stores selling this DVD and stand next to the DVD all day long telling and begging people not to buy it, screw up the order form on vai, satriani, and yngwie's website, amazon.com, and anyother websites. Then maybe, after they sell a grand total of 15 dvds, they'll learn their lesson. Boy would that be funny. Im NOT buying a DVD that doesn't have the whole show. You would thing that every vai and satriani fan screaming for the whole show would have given them the slightest clue to bring it to a label that would work with the whole show. I guess the only way for them to learn now is throught a complete boycott, or violence. Violence may not be the best or first answer, but is by far the best last resort answer! We all storm vai, satriani, and yngwie's houses and take them hostage till they release the full dvd! ok, a bit drastic i guess. lol.

Check out this Vai interview:
http://www.musictoday.com/news/artist/vai.asp

He states several times what the record company thought on his projects.
This is *exactly* the reason why (IMHO) Vai & Satch should get out of Epic ASAP.

He's said some pretty unflattering things about Sony Australia too, who refuse to release his albums here, or if they do it's not until long after he's toured to promote his latest stateside release. If they would simply put them in stores at the same time as the US release, everyone would buy the locally produced copy instead of the import and the label could make a few extra bucks and see what a mistake they've made. Oh well.

Good interview. Makes sense from Steve's perspective. If I were trying to create a musical in the vein that he is, I'd become rather frustrated with my label changing their mind about it every few weeks. Thank goodness he started Favored Nations. Can you imagine what the "Live in Astoria" DVD would have been like had Sony released it? I shudder to think...

You might be joking, but in any case, please don't email us. Let me reiterate again: Steve didn't have any involvement in the production of this DVD or CD apart from mixing his own audio. Steve was a participant in G3, but he's not the organizer.

I might as well address some other issues while I'm here too.

The reason Steve has only 3 tracks while Yngwie and Joe have more comes down to time allotment for each artist. Joe didn't deviate much from the studio recordings of his tracks, and Yngwie librally sprinkled his set with short tracks - moving from one song to the next in quick succession.

Peace,

Mikey

Mikey,

Thanks for the quick note. Despite my disappointment at not having a full set-list from all three artists, I will still be purchasing both the CD and DVD. There will still be lots of little notes for us to fetish .

Just before Christmas I bought the Transatlantic 'Live in Europe 'set. 2 DVDs and 2 Cds in a beautiful package. For £22. I'm not even a big fan of that band. But, if a 'niche' band like Transatlantic can put out a great value for money set, and presumably make money for their label...

There is a review of both the cd and the dvd in the newest guitar world. Neither sounded too good. I can't bear to watch yngwie when he's that fat. Ill by the dvd just to see vai's piece on the triple neck though.
