G3 merchandise & similar stuff
Hi,
I was wondering, what do you guys and gals do with the T-shirts and other merchandise that you get after G3 or some other show? Do you collect this stuff or just wear it?

I usually find I wear it a couple of times, then it stays in a draw. Unless I really like the design.

I have a G3 '01 and '03 shirt. the 2001 only came in Xl, which looks a bit baggy on me, so it's pretty much an emergency end-of-laundry shirt. the 2k3 shirt is in large, and in great condition. a great tip to keeping printed shirts is to let them air-dry on a hanger, not machine dry. makes them last at LEAST twice as long.
anyhow, my sister loves to make quilts. and as soon as the g3 '03 shirt detereorates, i'm going to commission her to make me a quilt for one of my birthdays that includes squares cut from the shirts, but follows the same color schemes (blue, black, & white).
that's how im doing it!
alllllllright!

I generally look at it across the sales counter at the show then leave it there 'cause it's too expensive.

Nothing wrong with a fake from outside
When bands like DT are charging £50 ($95) for a hoodie with minimal designs, I give them the finger :P

I wear 'em ... why else would you shell out so much for this stuff?

Not quite sure what you mean by that -- the English/American thing. But back in the day I shelled out so much cash on shirts at shows. I'd sometimes by a couple, and they made up almost my entire wardrobe (as far as shirts went anyway). Now, how many are left? Not a one. So,
if
I buy anything, and as you can see, I generally don't, it's something that isn't gonna wear out.
(I'm still kicking myself for not buying an autographed G3 '03 poster...)
My ticketstubs are pretty much all the souveniers I need.

usually at shows here there are "nice" folk outside selling fake t-shirts for about £5-£10 instead of the £30 or so the official ones are

yeah, you don't see it stateside. More's the pity.
I'm sorry, Satch shirts were $32 a peice when I caught him with Deep Purple. That's absurd. I spent some time working at a banana republic (notoriously pricey upscale branch of gap- i guess it hasn't made it abroad yet) and we didn't even charge that much for our t's...
A little bit of competition would probably knock these down to something sane in price.

At the last UK G3 tour, I was tempted by these, (after buying a couple of shirts inside the venue), unfortunately the shirts had a picture of Satch or Vai with the top half of the head missing.... kind of ruined the appeal really...
Cheers
John P.
p.s. someone nicked a t-shirt from under my seat at the newcastle gig, how sad is that?

i got whacked for $30 for a cool Vai shirt at the G3 in Orlando last year and wear it at my gigs fairly often. i turn it inside out when washing and air dry it so it doesn't fade the design.
it is a serious travesty that they believe in fleecing their fans for this stuff. i bought a signed archives vol 3 at that show for $15 - that was a fair deal. i had
Billy Sheehan
and Tony McAlpine sign it after the show (they were sooo cool!). they were out of the signed G3 posters and i was upset because that is really what i wanted the most!!
i had Steve sign a cool 8x10 i have that is now framed on the wall above my Jem.
