G3 Yngwie Video Clip

http://www.yngwierocks.com/

I can't guarantee it, but it looks like the Denver G3 show that was filmed for the DVD. It's hard to tell, they really don't show much of the venue. The sound on the video is much easier on the ears than it was live. George Lynch is touring with Yngwie for the next few months, I like George, but don't know if I can sit through YJM 2X in 6 months.

Woohoo. Thanks for the link to that great clip. I love to listen to YJM play the geetar. He rules. I completely agree about his volume level. I wonder if he realizes how badly he's discouraging his fans from coming to his concerts?

I love Lynch's playing, but his choice of vocalists can be off-putting. He's on my top ten list, though. I've been checking out his Guitar Bible video lately.

You know what, no matter how many bad things i read about Yngwie, I really respect and admire his guitar playing. I enjoyed that clip, Yngwie is a tremendous player and I'm really looking forward to the G3 DVD, roll on march 1st.

Yngwie does rock. I really don't see what the big deal about his attitude is. If he's got the chops to back it up (which I'm slightly sure he does ) then fine, do whatever you like. Now, his albums all sound the same that, even I have to admit.

I did like his cover of ABBA's "Gimme Gimme Gimme". He really fixed that song!

I totally respect his playing, it's his live tone that kills me. The tone was definitely toned down for the video, live the volume level and over-abundunce of high end gives me a serious "hangover" and really makes it painful to listen to. Lots of other people really enjoy it so maybe I'm just hyper sensitive to some of the frequencies he has boosted.

It is amazing to watch him play, it looks quite effortless and relaxed but sounds so "fast". I could live without his hyper 80s schtick though, again, my opinion, if you're into that, more power to ya.

I'm REALLY hoping that they chopped his high-end on the live DVD. It was downright painful! Way too shrill and screechy. I've never been much of an Yngwie fan, but it was interesting seeing him. I don't know that I'd necessarily pay to see him as a headliner, but it was cool seeing him at G3. However...HEARING him at G3...ugh! Complete absence of tone. Hopefully, they've worked some "studio magic" on the final DVD & CD

That's pretty funny, yngwie has my favorite tone. I will admit that the screechiness is definitely there, but I like it. When he bends his 21st fret up to 24, it is just painful, but it makes my brain feel all weird or somethin , I can't explain it.

I like his rhythm tone on the early recordings a lot; it's one reason I'm adamant about having single coils available on my axes. And his leads on record sound good. But I only saw him once live, as an opener in a big arena. Sound was so bad I couldn't tell you WHAT his tone was like. It was a major disappointment for me, but the Triumph show was awesome.

I think attitude IS important, and whether someone has the chops to back it is irrelevant. Celebrity is baloney, whether for musicians, athletes, or actors. If you're good, I'll be interested in buying your product. If you are an ass, I'll screw you the only way I can - I'll stop buying your product.

This may be slightly off topic, since we're fussing about Yngwies tone, but from my G3 experience in Atlanta, GA Yngwie appeared to have the least volume. The only annoying player for tone to volume IMHO was Satriani.
Satch was far too loud. It was to the point that I had to walk to front hallway just to get away from the sound pressure. Anywho, my .02

Ya, I don't get why they can't get their sound levels to be absolutely perfect. It seems like they play enough shows to know how loud to play in a certain enviornment.

yngwie rules!! I don't understand why everyone knocks him, especially people that are into Vinnie Moore, David Chastain etc.. I don't even think his tone is all that bad in this clip. When I saw the show in Boston it sounded worse.

They knock his attitude, mostly. The chops are there, and were pretty much revolutionary. First time I heard "hot on your heels" was at half speed - the guy had slowed it down to learn it. It was still good. He sped it up and I had to scrape my jaw off the floor. And he got even better with Alcatrazz & the first couple Rising Force albums.

Unfortunately, IMO he never really improved much after that.

My fave of the Shrapnel Yngwie-alike crowd from a taste perspective was actually Vinnie Moore. Dunno why. But chops-wise they all rocked.
