Re: George Lynch going ballistic

I seriously wonder if he's going deaf. I've seen him many times over his career, and he's always been a great player. Within the last few years, however, it seems like he can't hear what he's jamming to. He often sounds like he's playing WAY outside the backing track (and not in a good way, like a jazz player's "outside"). I've seen a couple of instances where people were trying to talk to him on stage, and he was either ignoring their cues or he just flat couldn't hear them. Makes you wonder. I love him as a player, but something's up.

Re: George Lynch going ballistic

this is one of the tunes that supposedly was going to be on the instrumental cd that was slated to come out last year. seemed like he was so close to releasing it and now you never hear about it. i'd like to see him release something new, maybe he'd tame down the fury of his improv a little on a bonafide recording. his note choice sounds cool to me, but i've been exposed to a lot of different types of music like ornette coleman, webern, schoenberg, etc., so it's somewhat refreshing to hear a rock guitarist reaching outside of the standard diatonic box. the only thing i'd like to hear is for him to slow down a bit and let the phrases breathe. he seems to be full throttle all the time nowadays.

It's somewhat boring to me. I like George, but I don't like his playing these days.

He looks alot more buff than I remember him back in his Dokken days. Maybe he's been hanging out with Petrucci??

I just signed up to his dojo. It's pretty cool. It's certainly refreshing to find a guitarist who really connects with his fans.I saw some pics posted on his site where he was jamming with his dojo students and going out to breakfast with them. There can't be many,if any guitarists in his position that do that..

Same for me. Being primarily a listener of jazz / rock fusion, I can appreciate Lynch's "outside" playing. He always did play outside the box, that's why I like him, plus his vibrato is very good.
