Goin to see Dick Dale tomorrow night

Does anybody know who he is??

I've heard he's the king of surf guitar and did the soundtracks in the movies Pulp Fiction and Res. dogs.

But I've never heard of him. Should be interesting

BTW - I guess his fans are called "Dickheads"

So I guess "Parrot head" has been taken to a whole new level???

Dick Dale rocks. Period.
Still going strong 40+ years after making his debut. Not too many people can make the same claim. He's doing a few dates with Gary Hoey this year which should be totally blown out. Expect an excellent performance on some really tasty material.

Sounds like it will be fun. I don't know him. Recognize the songs you mentioned. Curious to hear your review of his show then.

Seriously? He's huge. Gigantic even. I guess Pulp Fiction says it all. AMazing guy.

I have never had the pleasure of live, but I am quite familiar with his work. I would tell you to hit YouTube, but I don't want to spoil the surprise.

I have had a surf guitar epiphany the past few years.
The one thing I've noticed is Dales affinity for hyperbole, and I'll just leave it at that. ALso check out Los Straitjackets, if you get into Dale, you'll love these guys. http://www.straitjackets.com/

Dick Dale is 70 today,HAPPY Birthday! He's playing the Double Door here in Chicago on the 14th. Turns out that Los Straitjackets are playing here tonight and tomorrow night as well...SURF's UP DUDE ! ! !

I'm a big fan of surf guitar. In fact, I have The Best of The Ventures in my car's CD player right now. Really love the song "Diamond Head." Anyway...

The simplicity of surf guitar music really makes both the listener and the musicians concentrate on the melody and on technique. It's just a guitarist, a tube amp, and maybe some reverb.
