Great Improv Players
anyone know any? i mean any style (tho jazz would be nice
) i just feel the need to listen to music that goes 'off on one' without it being too pretentious and i dont have a clue what to listen to...

I just picked up the Derek and the Dominoes box set.It has a cd with 5 jams on it, unfortunately only 2 have Duane. There is also a cd of out takes and demos.

Yeah, but where is that album where Pat Metheny is improvising all over the place? All of those jazz guys can improvise all night, but it's tough to catch it recorded unless it's a live album. Wes Montgomery Live at the Blue Note is a good one for some off the cuff improv, but live jazz albums is where you'll find what you're looking for. the studio albums aren't usually improvised, but well thought out and executed.
Also, don't limit yourself to guitarists, obviously. If you can get a live album by anyone Pawel mentioned you should be pretty happy. Jimmy Bruno is also a great, great musician to check out; his live album is called Live at Birdland
