I don't deny that; I am referring to Jethro Tull having beat out Metallica for the heavy metal grammy a little over 10 years ago.

Now, firstly I agree that we're hardly ever going to find a list where we can all agree but then again there will always be some basic things that cannot go unnoticed. For instance in the Guitar Players poll, can anyone explain how in the world Kirk Hammet is above Pat Metheny, Al Di Meola and Ritchie Blackmore ? Furthurmore I certainly don't understand the absence of such metal legends as Dimebag, Mustaine and Marty ! I mean c'mon ! Give these guys a break !

don't mean to offend, mate, but please learn to spell before bashing people on here. You'll come off a lot better that way.

Dave, please don't tell me you're comparing Kirk to Dimebag or Friedman because that's just a horrific act of inhumanity against rational thinking. Metallica was a great band back in the day but if we start comparing early solos between the three of these guys I'm afraid it's going to quickly become a very, very one-sided argument. Metallica's quality had a lot more to do with Hetfield, Ulrich, Cliff Burton and Newsted then it had to do with Kirk. Besides, any guitarist who says that he won't play any solos on his band's new album because he had already "proven to everyone he can play solos" already loses any any shred of respect I had for him. Think about it. I don't mean to be offensive but these are some things you should seriously consider.

I think Kirk was just being lazy or something, like his attitude now is " I've already done solos on all my albums, so i've proven myself". Ya, that is pretty lame and dissapointing, but people on this forum do bash on certain people too much. It's like if you mention Yngwie or Kirk, you get 30 replies on how much they suck. I think that it is pretty ridiculous.

thats crap bro, they recorded many solos for the new album but Bob Rock (producer of the album) said that whenever there was a solo in their it seemed to date the songs. where do you read or hear the "i've already done solos on all my albums......"

also weserman, i was not bashing anyone on this board and never have, its seems you however have decided to bash me and play mister school teacher, about my spelling

It's all good Dave and sorry about the humanity thing, I was in a really bad mood right then and I really should'nt have said that. Also, I had read about Bob Rock cancelling the solos but it had totally slipped my mind. Once again I don't mean to be offensive in any way.

As liberal as that list was, I'm surprised Gordon Lightfoot didn't make it. Sheesh. And nothing against CC DeVille, but DAMN - ahead of Vai and George Lynch? Ack!
