The majority of people who always say they can't play like this or that player(not talking about you)don't study even 1 hour a day.
They think they will fall asleep and in the morning they'll play like their idols.
Gustavo is an awesome player but a terrible composer cause you all can see he not only uses other players licks as he uses the same modulations and stuff.

Come on if you like any other guitarist lick,learn it then change it and create something different.It's not that difficult cause music theory is the same to everybody.
Just the other day a guy from other forum asked me how I play sweep arpeggios so clean?
I said=lock your bedroom's door,disconnect the phone and turn your metronome on.
No God or any magical creature will give it to you,you have to study.
Still Gustavo is an awesome Player and a cool guy.

I've never been a songwriter. I don't enjoy writing songs. I don't really want to.

I do enjoy being able to play everything Satch has recorded note for note. That's why I play guitar these days

ivan said it best, the guy looks like he's having fun and that should be the most important part of playing guitar for anybody.

(unless you're doing it strictly for the money, then you might as well work in Starbucks or be a lawyer)

Completely agreed perhaps he uses what all other guitarists created in HIS own songs.He's not playing other guitarists songs like you said you do(I do enjoy being able to play everything Satch has recorded note for note),he's playing his own songs made by copying and glueing other guitarists licks.
I do enjoy playing Satch,Vai,Malmsteen note for note too in my bedroom,they're roots for everybody,but at the stage I like to show my music and it cannot be a copy of something somebody did.
And saying he's having fun is very naive,he's doing those faces just to put some emotion into notes,he doesn't do those faces in his bedroom or when he's alone.
We're in 2009 and still there are people who believes in ACTING.
He's not having fun he's making money making videos to sell his stuff,nothing wrong about it but that's ACTING.Alone he doesn't do those faces.Neither Vai or any other.

So the smartest ones make faces to people say hey he plays with his heart and soul,look at his face he's having fun!

As I said he looks like he's having fun. I don't doubt he's hamming it up for the camera, but then at least he's not taking himself too seriously, after all it's only rock and roll

If the guy's going to put up a video of himself on youtube, I'd rather he was smiling, than looking like someone had just killed his cat

Great player, and for me the fun he is having is all the reason needed to applaud him.
